Remembering Farrah Fawcett

Television Icon Farrah Fawcett Has Died

The world has lost Farrah Fawcett, but Heaven gained another Angel. Farrah Fawcett, the tremendously beautiful television star and an international sex symbol has died. Fawcett passed away in a Los Angeles intensive care unit, this morning around 9:28AM, losing her brave two and a half year battle with anal cancer. At Farrah's bedside was her long-time love, Ryan O'Neal, the man who wished to marry Farrah but did not get to see his dream come true. While we can sympathize with Ryan O'Neal's pain, as well as the pain their son Redmond is experiencing right now, the world will mourn Farrah and will be deeply saddened by this loss.

Cancer is an equal opportunity disease that does not prefer a certain nationality, race or income level. Farrah Fawcett bravely stood up to anal cancer, and even shared her emotional journey with the rest of the world in the documentary Farrah's Story.

We Watched Farrah and Worshiped Her

I was born in 1982, shortly after the popular TV show Charlie's Angels stopped filming, in a third-world European country. My parents lived thousands of miles away from Hollywood, but were huge fans of Charlie's Angels. American television shows were very popular in our household, and Charlie's Angels re-runs were something I had grown up watching.

The beauty of Farrah was so glowing and bubbly, it radiated from television sets worldwide. I remember my childhood, growing up in a two bedroom house, and watching Charlie's Angels. I would sit in our living room floor, in front of a small colored TV, mesmerized by Angels and especially by Farrah. My hair was jet black, but I would have given everything to have those golden locks. I remember asking my mother several times if she'd take me to the lady that did her hair, and ask her to make me a blonde like Farrah. My mother always refused, but luckily I had several chances to attempt having blonde hair in my later years. I was never successful enough to have Farrah's beautiful blonde locks, after all the original is always better than imitation.

To me, Farrah Fawcett was so much more than beautiful blonde hair and great looks. On television, she always seemed like a gentle soul, someone with both feet firmly on the ground even though she was an internationally famous sex symbol. Her infamous red-bathing suit poster hung on the wall of my uncle's auto repair shop, a man who never had the chance to visit America let alone see Hollywood. This is exactly what Farrah Fawcett was all about, a stunningly natural beauty that regular people could love.

Farrah will be dearly missed by her fans, living in America and all of those living in countries you may not have even heard of. The 70s icon, and television superstar may have lost her brave battle with cancer, but in our hearts she will always be a beloved Angel.

I grew up on a regular diet of "Charlie's Angels". Farrah's energy and bubbly attitude was a great role model for me. Thanks for your lovely words of remembrance.

I feel sorry for her family, that only 5 hours later Michael Jackson's death took over all the news. but maybe it's better for them...more privacy.

Two great icons died yesterday. Farrah was hardly talked about on the news, which is very sad IMO. It was all MJ. Farrah is truly an Angel now!
