Remembering a Friend

Garrett H.
Like so many pictures,
Aligned in a book,
So is my memory of you.
A time, in youth, resides calm
Beside a time in closing.
A time of growing.

And that book, in my hands,
Still wishes to start again.
To ignore that which has passed
And revert to the apex
Of our bond.
That phantom hour when we sought
Knowledge from one another.
And no other.

Yet this book is not shelved.
Its times not lost.
These faces can reside calm,
Though distorted they may become.
These faces can lend a voice to mine
While you are gone, and closing, and growing.

Gone, and closing, and growing.
So is my memory of you.
