Remembering the Holocaust, in America and Abroad - Also Known as Yom HaShoah
April 21 is Holocaust Remembrance Day
As I walked through the holding cells of the many men that were awaiting their demise, that dreary day, reflections of images flashed through my mind, as if I were actually there myself. Perhaps the Lord wanted me to feel or see things. My love for people is so strong that I cannot fathom being there at that time to see and be near those who suffered so much.
There is one girl that was. Her name was Anne Frank. I will never forget that telling book where she recounted the many things that so many Jewish families had to face. This is one way that we can remember that time in history. Read the Diary of Anne Frank. Better yet, if you have a young daughter, this is a "must read" for her, as well.
If you just can't make it to Germany to visit the actual torture chambers and holding cells in these concentration camps, that I had the opportunity to visit, perhaps there are other places that you can go, instead.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is one place that you can go and visit. It is located on 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, SW in Washington DC. If you are in the area, surely this would be a great place where you can take the entire family. In efforts to keep the museum up and running, there are donations that are taken from all over the world. There are some that believe that the Holocaust never even took place, This museum is here to contradict that ideal.
Here you will find many things that will take you back to that place in time. There are several photo albums of people who were in the concentration camps. There are journals of Holocaust survivors who share their counts of the Holocaust.
Here you will find arts and other things that were found in the homes of Holocaust victims. Articles of clothing, shoes, toys and jewelry are amongst some of the things that you will find in the museum. There is also an abundance of videos and films that you can watch to recount those horrific days.
There will be many speakers all over the world who will speak on behalf of anti-Semitism and hate to human kind. Some of these include German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and others. Please visit the sites in the resource box for more details on remembering this unforgettable time in our history.

Post a CommentI visited the house where Anne Frank and her family hid in Amsterdam at a time in my life when I really didn't know that much about her. I went with a Jewish boy who broke down in tears during the visit. Even though I didn't know much about her before that visit, the tour of the actual house and attic she and her family hid in touched me in a profound way that I will never forget. Never forget.
Exceptional piece!
Geat reminder here thanks for writing this!

Just like 9-11, pearl harbor, the OKC bombings etc ... we should all remember the holocaust and honor the victims. Good article!
