Remembering Martin Luther Knig Jr.

Changing America

Zach Golt
Martin Luther King Jr. was an inspirational man that changed the world. He would be proud to see that the United States has moved along from its insecurities, and matured enough to proudly vote for president-elect Obama. America is getting ready for his inauguration and none of this could have taken place with out Martin Luther King Jr.

Throughout Martin Luther King's life he built a long resume of service for his community. He spoke frequently and gave many speeches, and he was fairly experienced because of his reverend father.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. He was the son of the reverend Martin Luther King Sr. As you know Martin Luther King Jr. was influenced by Thurman, Ghandi and Rustin. Thurman was a civil rights leader, and an educator. Thurman mentored King in the classroom. He was one of his first early mentors. He influenced his studies and writing.

Gandhi was one of Kings later inspirations. Gandhi was known for his non-violent activism and King loved that about him. King visited Gandhi and his family in India in 1959. When King visited India he was influenced by Gandhi and his way of life. When he returned to Georgia he had been even more convinced that non-violent activism was the right way to lead the African American people through their hard times. He knew that this weapon of non-violence would be very powerful! And he was right.

Martin Luther King Jr. was is a great role model and he changed the world and will be remembered for the rest of time. His influences from Thurman, Ghandia and Rustin changed everything about the way people live today. If King never took a chance, events like the Montgomery bus boycott (1955), the Albany movement, March of Washington in 1963 and the never forgettable," I Have a Dream" speech would have never happened.

When he was thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. It was a good day, and being the generous man that he was, he donated his Nobel Peace Prize money of $54,123.000 to continue the civil rights movement he supported so dearly.

These remarkable days, events in time, have changed our way of living. It has made a better life for our children. I am proud to say that I live in the United States, and that we will always be united. He has changed the world for the better! Life would have been completely different if Martin Luther King Jr. didn't walk the earth, and Marin Luther King Jr. Day is a great day to remember how much he influenced the world.
