Remembrance
In our hallow garden there is a sanctity of stone.
The wall we labored over in quiet solidarity
Has settled like a slumbering cromlech
Dreaming all our secrets to itself,
Our murmuring voices
Writ forever in its granite flesh.
Your absence is a sharp presence. It stings my eyes.
The cat in-sinuous against my leg
Hears your last summer shushes
Lifting tail to meet the memory of your hand
And I look towards your empty chair, sip sepia coffee,
Keep our covenant with trowel and spade.
