Remifemin for Menopause: Alternative to Hormone Therapy

Leigh Vaughn
I couldn't live without my Remifemin. Remifemin is an alternative to hormone therapy, which many women can take for hot flashes with no side affects. Remifemin is the only thing that would work for my hot flashes. I couldn't take birth control for menopause like some women can. If you're thinking about trying Remifemin, sometimes you can get a free sample of Remifemin by checking the web site for Remifemin.

Remifemin Believer

I was a believer after trying it. It took awhile to kick in. I rarely, if ever have hot flashes anymore. Sometimes I would still get a little warm at night. I would open my window to cool off the room before bed. I began to use a fan on my dresser in the bedroom. I would use a small fan in my office at work too. Drinking something cold helped as well.

Early Hysterectomy

In my mid-forties I ended up having to have a hysterectomy. I had two ovarian cysts and endometriosis, which was very painful. I don't miss the periods, but the hot flashes from the menopause would become quite annoying. At night I would put on a robe at night and the next minute throw it off and want to stick my head in the ice box.

A Word of Advice

If you go shopping, looking for Remifemin, don't get the brand name, it's really expensive. If you have a Walgreen's Drug Store in town, the cost for the store brand is half as much and many times it's on a two for one sale. You can't beat that deal, buy one, get one free! Different things work for different women. What I like about Remifemin, (black cohosh) is that is has no side effects.

Black Cohosh

Black Cohosh is the main ingredient in Remifemin, (brand name or the generic) and is used to treat symptoms of menopause. Black Cohosh treats hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. Historically it was used to treat rheumatism. There are many other names for this stem or root, such as black snakeroot, bugwort, rattleroot and rattleweed. The plant is native to North America and is used fresh dried to make strong teas, pills, capsules and liquid extracts.

Hormone Therapy

For me personally, hormone therapy was a nightmare. They all made me extremely depressed. I later found out I was born with a predisposition for depression. They also made me feel sick to my stomach and gave me headaches. Hormone Therapy has also been known to increase the chance of breast cancer, heart attack, blood clots and strokes. Some women take it for years with no problems, I wasn't one of them. I'm glad I have my Remifemin,(black cohosh). I have no side affects at all.
