Hot Fun in the Summertime Series

Nature always has interesting things for all to enjoy and observe. The Remington Nature Center in St. Joseph, Missouri is such a place to see nature up close and personal. Their stated mission is, "To inspire visitors to learn more about human impacts on the Earth, and instill a desire to be a positive steward for our world".

Upon your entrance you can't help but notice a rather old woolly mammoth. We're talking 10,000 years old here. Visitors will be delighted with the 7,000 gallon aquarium where Missouri River fish will happily entertain you with their beauty.

There are many videos that can be viewed in the indoor theater. Topics such as the Western Migration and the California Gold Rush are just two of them.

Additionally there are more than 1200 Native American artifacts that should prove to be educational, interesting and informative. Of course no visit to this nature center would be complete without a stroll down the river-walk and enjoying the scene of the Loess Hills Bluffs.

On the premises are sensory gardens, rain gardens, cultural exhibits and an outdoor classroom for various functions.

Before leaving, take a snack break in the cafe and pick up a unique souvenir from their gift shop.

The Remington Nature Center is located at 1502 MacArthur Drive in St. Joseph, MO 64505. Their phone number is 816-271-5499. More information can be seen on their website at www.stjoenaturecenter.info.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 1-5. Admission is Adults, $3.00, Seniors $2.00, Youth (7-15) $1.00 and Free for 6 and under.

This is another place that you will definitely want to have your camera at hand.
