Remodeling Your Kitchen Cabinets? Don't Panic

Shopping for new cabinets is harder than you think. First off, you must have an ideal view of what you plan on your new look to be. Of course you know the style, but will the style fit your entire kitchen? I say this because even though the style you are in search of is awesome, that style may or may not be fitting for your overall look. Recently, we had to shop for new cabinets (this was in Alabama, and it wasn't my home, but the home of a friend), and the experience wasn't a pretty one. Even though we had taken the necessary actions to ensure that the measurements were accurate, we failed to take in perspective that the new cabinets may be totally different than the old cabinets; as in size, shape and matter.

Once we arrived at the home improvement store, we realized that the new cabinets would need more space than our original area. Needless to say that this was the first stumbling block for our remodeling project. Noticing that the new cabinets would need a bit more space, we had to change our decision of which set of new cabinets would fit in the original moldings for the cabinets.

With this being stated, we then had to return home and redo our measurements, but only this time, we had to determine if we had room enough to place the new, larger cabinets of our choice. They didn't fit, and wouldn't fit. No matter how we tried to make room, the kitchen was not designed to put in larger cabinets. So, needless to say, the new cabinets of our choice wasn't going to work. We searched for cabinets that would fit the original molding. This was our second block; the only cabinets that fit into the original measurements, were unattractive, tedious cabinets-exactly what we were trying to get away from. But while searching, we did find that Home Depot had more reasonable prices.

The salesman was helpful, but not accommodating. He could only show us cabinets that we were trying to get away from; so we had to make a decision: either totally rearrange our kitchen's design, or to tear a few walls to get the exact look we wanted. Which is basically saying the same thing-we were at a loss!

Finally, we were forced to take the choice of having to use the lesser approved cabinets; they were the exact size, a better material, but none-the-less, they were still small. Oh, but oh-of course we made a terrific go at it. The finished look actually took on a greater appeal than the original idea we had planned. The new cabinets were made of a cherry oak, matching perfectly with the mauve tiles we had, and accented the counter top appliances-of course that were my favorite color-red.

It just goes to show you, that you have to be certain and accurate of what type of cabinets you want, and the right amount of space available to create the look you desire in your home. But in the end, be sure that the finished look is a complete array of your expression.
