Removal of unwanted hair through laser has been around for almost twenty-five years but it became a regular commercial practice in the mid 1990's. This process is referred medically as epilation, it makes use of IPL (Intense Pulse Light) epilators which release full spectrum of light. This process is widely use in the community of dermatology and is practice around the globe.

The laser actually heats up the melanin a substance that causes hair growth. Most hair removal lasers today only aim on the melanin only. Melanin is a substance of the skin that gives color to the hair. There are two kinds of melanin, one is eumelanin which is responsible for the brown and black hair color and two is the pheomelanin responsible for the blond and red hair color. Unfortunately lasers of today can only remove brown and black hair.

This method of hair removal is most preferred by both men and women today. Why? Because it is convenient and the results are long lasting. It is been use in various parts of the body like the chin, arms, legs, toes, chest, thigh, face, neck, bikini lines, abdomen, underarm, back, ear lobes, upper lip as well as pubic area.

Generally it takes five to seven treatments and sometimes it can extend up to twelve sessions or treatments depending on your skin color as well as your type of hair. In most cases just a series of five to six treatments is enough every four to six weeks apart would do the job.

What are the risks you face when you undergo laser hair removal? There are also a number of risks that you have to consider if you are planning to have laser hair removal and that includes burning of skin, skin discoloration, acne, formation of white spots on the treated area and swelling.

Removal of unwanted hair through laser can be risky thus you have to consult your dermatologist if you are planning to have one. Discuss all the options that you have that is available today and from that make a wise decision and consider too the advice of your dermatologist which methods might best fit you and will work well with you. Just make sure that you know all there is to know if you are decided on undergoing a hair laser removal. Be prepared for the cost as well as the possible risk that you might experience from it.
