Remove These Triggers to Prevent Asthma Attacks in Children

Frequent coughs, running nose with fever, wheezing, colic, unexplained rashes are some manifestation of a possible asthma attack in children. These are signs that parents should watch for in their kids. There are certain factors that trigger off asthma attacks in children.

Smoke is one of the biggest culprits. Generally, asthma is recurrent in people who smoke or in Children who are secondary smokers. Smokers should refrain from smoking in front of children- it would set a good example and keep the child from breathing irritating smoke. Better to quit smoking altogether!

Dust mites live in pillows, mattresses, carpets, and woolen clothing. They can trigger off asthma attacks easily. The home must be dust free. Washing of pillows and carpets frequently is the only way to rid them of dust mites Children love stuffed toys. Dust mites too love stuffed toys. Special care should be taken to see that the toys are dust free. Vacuum clean the house as often as necessary so that it is dust proof. Mold spores found in dark and damp places are a leading cause of asthma in children. Homes should be warm, and well ventilated. If the weather outside is conducive to the presence of molds, keep your children indoors.

Pollen from flowers blowing in the wind during hot and dry climates can also cause allergy in kids. They had better keep away from gardening during the pollen season. Pets can also cause asthma attacks in kids. Dander from furry animals especially cats, cat urine, and feathers of birds can trigger off attacks in children. It is better to keep pets out of the child's room. When the house has to be painted, make sure to do it when the child is away. Certain foods can cause asthma like symptoms in children. Eggs, peanuts, milk, wheat, and wheat and raw foods are some off them. Identifying the foods your child is allergic to and consciously excluding them from their diet is very crucial.

Children predisposed to asthma are generally discouraged from exercising. However, the situation can be managed better. Train your child to use inhalers. Inform the school and the physical trainer about your child's condition. Inhaling Albuterol when the child shows signs of an imminent attack can help asthma going out of hand. Using bronchodilators can bring relief too.

In infants, much more care is required. A breast fed infant has much reduced chance of asthma attacks. It is inadvisable to give the baby solid foods too early.

It is necessary to diagnose asthma in children or they will be in danger of developing chest deformities. Parents tend to transfer their anxiety regarding asthma to the child. The asthmatic child has to be able to relax. Most of the children outgrow asthma. Asthma need not de-limit them in any way.
