Removing Red Kool Aid Stains in Carpet - Part 2

Improving the Previous Technique

When red Kool Aid has been spilled in carpet, it seems impossible to get the stain out. The best method I have found so far is to use Dawn, Ammonia, Warm water, and an iron. But do not use all of these together!

First, fill a small bowl or bucket up with warm water and 7 or 8 drops of liquid Dawn. Take a white cotton towel and soak it in the soapy water. Spread the towel out over the stain and place a hot iron on top of it. Your iron setting should be on Cotton. Let the iron dry the towel and then place the iron in another spot that is still wet. You will see the towel start turning red as it lifts the stain out of the carpet. Following this technique all over the stain will remove most of it and leave a light pink stain. Keep in mind that this is not a quick and easy fix. The process takes several hours over a couple of days. Follow this process until your towel stops changing color.

Next, mix equal parts warm water and ammonia. Take a clean white cotton towel and repeat the iron process all over the stain. Again, the towel should turn pink as it lifts the stain out of the carpet. Repeat the process until the stain is gone. This is the best method I have found so far and has kept me from having to replace carpet.

You will want to be sure and follow these steps as soon as possible once Kool Aid has been spilled. The faster you get it, the more likely you'll be able to lift the stains out. You want to get it out before the stain sets in. Also, when something gets spilled into the carpet, it is important not to rub the liquid into the carpet when you are cleaning it out. You want to press a towel into the area and soak it up. Rubbing just makes the stain bigger. Soak up as much liquid as you can, until the carpet is dry. Once that is done, then follow the steps above.
