Removing Those Stubborn Stains From Cloth Diapers

How to Keep Your Cloth Diapers White

J. McDaniel
Every parent is surprised to find that keeping their cloth diapers white and stain free is a difficult task indeed. Every time their baby goes, they find another stubborn stain that just won't come out. Well, help is here - and here are the secrets to keeping your cloth diapers white and stain free.

Start off by presoaking your stained cloth diapers in a solution of one fourth a cup of baking soda to every gallon of cold water. This is best left to sit overnight, but if you don't have the time a fifteen minute presoak should be fine. Also make sure that any fecal matter is mostly rinsed out of the cloth diaper before presoaking it.

Now it's time to toss your diapers in the washing machine. Dump them along with the baking soda solution in the washing machine and run it through the rinse cycle first. This will help to further remove any stubborn stains and also clean out any leftover fecal matter. After you've rinsed the cloth diapers, add a dye and perfume free detergent to the load and turn the dial on your washing machine to "heavy". Wash the cloth diapers on this setting. Finish up with another extra rinse just to make sure all the detergent got washed out of your cloth diapers (this will make them extra soft and fluffy as well).

Now is the time for the real secret to keeping your cloth diapers white and stain free - if you can, hang your cloth diapers out in the sun to dry. The sun has natural bleaching power that will help remove even the most stubborn of stains. Unlike chlorine bleach though the sun will not slowly kill the absorbency of your cloth diapers, so it's safe to use this method instead of chlorine bleach.

Another thing you can do to keep your diapers white and stain free is by avoiding feeding your baby foods that are known to stain fabrics. Such foods include various types of berries, some fruit juices, dyed foods, and greasy foods.

Keeping your diapers white and stain free as you can see is really not all that difficult to do. You just have to know the right washing methods to use and avoid foods that are known to stain fabrics. With a little know how and patience, your diapers will stay white and stain free for generations to come.
