Renaissance Fairs in New York During May and June

Knights and rouges, ladies and damsels; harken to my words for what I speak is true. Renaissance fairs are great medieval fun for all ages. And there are a number to attend in New York during the months of May and June.

Hudson Valley Mayfaire - Located approximately 71 miles south of Albany in New Paltz, New York. This fair will be held one weekend in early May 2008 from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Parking will be free. Tickets will be about $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and kids, and free for children ages 5 and under. Those wishing to dress in costume will be required to keep weapons sheathed and peace-tied. No alcohol will be sold or permitted. A special feature is the Kid's kingdom with fairy tales, games, and more for younger visitors and their families. Entertainment will include a masterful living chess match, thrilling jousting, mysterious belly dancing, alluring music, astonishing magic, and much more. Skilled craftsmen will sell appealing items such as armor, weapons, clothing, jewelry, soaps, and leather goods. Vendors will offer enticing period foods and refreshing beverages. More information can be found on their website at http://www.hvmayfaire.com.

Brass Ring Thing Renaissance Faire - Located approximately 15 miles north of Buffalo in North Tonawanda, New York at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum. This outdoor fair will be held June 2nd from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. An unlimited game bracelet is available for an additional $5. This event is held in conjunction with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) as a fundraiser and is a juxtaposition of the current view of the carrousel as an amusement ride together with the ancient history of the carrousel as a training device for knights. Knights in shining armor will show off amazing equestrian skills, craftsmen will demonstrate a variety of medieval arts, minstrels will entertain with enchanting music, and storytellers will delight with fascinating tales. Activities for kids include arts, crafts, carrousel rides, medieval board games, sand castle building, and more. Games for young and old will include The Log Joust, Lance the Dragon, King Ring Toss, and more. Many vendors will be offering finely crafted items. Information about the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum and other events they host can be found on their website at http://www.carouselmuseum.org.

Mayhap I've inflamed yon curiosity with my fanciful descriptions and inspired you to enjoy rousing medieval fun this year at renaissance fairs in New York in May and June. Huzzah!
