Renaissance Hair Tutorial

The "Renaissance" period in history traditionally refers to a time in the Middle Ages when people began challenging the established ideas of history, religion and science. In some countries, clothing colors and hairstyles were "assigned" to you according to your social class or marital status. Today, you can complete your renaissance outfit with a simple or elaborate hairstyle according to the character you would like to play. An authentic look is possible regardless of your current hairstyle.

• Fine toothed comb
• Rubber bands
• Fabric strips
• Hairband with comb ends

Peasant Hairstyle

Step 1

Wash and dry your hair. Brush out any knots or tangles. Part the hair into three sections, one in the back and one on each side of the head. The largest section will be the section in the middle. The two on the side should only be 2 inches wide.

Step 2

Comb one 2 inch section to remove any snags or tangles. Make an individual braid with each of the two small sections. Secure the bottom of each with a rubber band. Cover the bands with one of the fabric strips. These sections will dangle freely for this style.

Step 3

Braid the middle section of the hair by dividing it into three small sections. Fold each section over one another, starting with the left, then the right. This will make the large braid.

Step 4

Secure the end of the hair with a rubber band. Cover the rubber band with a bit of fabric or ribbon.

Nobility Style

Step 1

Divide hair into two equal parts using a fine-toothed comb. Secure one side loosely with a clamp so you can work with the other side with both hands.

Step 2

Make a ponytail on the side, gathering the hair into an elastic ponytail holder just above the ears. Do this for both sides.

Step 3

Twist the hair by holding the center of the ponytail with one finger and rolling the hair around the ponytail. Twist the hair until all the hair is wound up like a bun. Secure the end of the hair by using a pin to hold the end of the hair in place. Hide the ends by tucking them in the bun. Do the same for both sides.

Step 4
