Rend the Air: A Poem

Scott Bauer
Here I lie

Face-up on a serene grass covered plain

With the burning supremacy of an eagle overhead

I twist and contort

I cannot turn from the torment above

I can feel its talons on my mind

Just enough to cause confusion, dilemma and insanity

If I do not succumb to its taunts

I know it will crush and burn my soul

It will take my freedom

It will take my sacred life

It will take all that is truly my own

I will rend the air with my screams

With my cries

Cries for the dusk of society
