Born in Queens in 1967, Dixon says at an early age he knew he wanted to be involved in entertainment. "My parents surrounded me with music and the arts," he says. "I regularly attended concerts, films and Broadway plays like The Wiz, Raisin in the Sun and Don't Bother Me I can't Cope."

Now that he's written, produced and directed his first film Rendezvous, Duane Dixon acknowledges he's only just begun. The movie is set in the heart of Atlanta involving three loving couples in different phases of their relationships, but what looks picture perfect is only the calm before the storm. Each couple represents one of the three primary reasons Dixon feels couples usually stray; love, lust or neglect. When asked why a movie like Rendezvous? Dixon breaks it all down in a one-on-one interview with TV Show Host, Wendell Scott of The Wendell Show.

Q: How did you start in the film production business?

A: I've always enjoyed writing and have been writing for the last ten years or so.

The problem with writing being the only thing you do is that you're still left to pitch your script with the hopes that someone with the finances can green light your vision. Having spent a lot of time in my 20's as a vocalist begging someone to listen to my demo, I knew that was no longer an option for me. So I studied every book I could get my hands on, spoke to anyone who was vaguely associated with the business I aspired to be a part of, and went into pre production. Before I knew it, I was no longer thinking about being a film maker, I had actually become one.

Q: Explain to me who has inspired you to do what you love the most?

A: I could recite a long list of directors that have had an effect on me like Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Quinton Tarantino, Bill Duke and David Fincher. All those guys have in some way or another inspired me to want to make films. But the real catalyst was my children. I have a sixteen year old son and a twelve year old daughter that I encourage everyday of their lives to "Be Epic". I try to instill in them that life has no limits, and to get out of your comfort zone; but just like anything else, when you hear something all the time it can start to lose its value or significance. So I asked myself, what can I do outside of my comfort zone to further inspire the ones that matter most? Well, I began to follow my own advice and instead of just writing screenplays that I had become comfortable with, I decided to take it one step further and not only write but produce and direct my own film.

Q: Has it had the desired affect?

A: Only time will tell. The good thing is, I see them admiring what I do with a lot more enthusiasm than they had when I would take them to a closing for another real estate deal. :-) Surprisingly it's been the adults that always mention how I've inspired them. That's always good to hear too.

Q: Why "Rendezvous?" What made you think this would be the perfect title for this movie?

A: Rendezvous is a film about three individual couples having an affair. All the stories have an air of mystery to them and for me the word Rendezvous conjures up images of secretive meetings between two people. The title is short, direct and just rolls of the tongue. And lastly, I thought it might easily translate to the European markets considering it's a French word.
