Renewing Your FASFA Yearly Online

Kate Schum
It is imperative to renew your FAFSA every year as financial situations do tend to change quite often. This guide will help you with everything you need to know about taking the proper steps to renew your FAFSA. Also, FAFSA are trying to completely phase out paper applications, so submitting these forms online would be a fantastic head start if you are used to paper applications.

One of the most important things that you need to do is make sure that you keep the pin available to you for when you must renew your FASFA online. If you lose your pin, you can sign up for either an immediate reminder or you can ask for it to be sent to your address. If you have moved or you do not remember what information you may have signed up with it is best to call their help line so that you can get your pin replaced.

The next step is to sign into your application and look over all of the information. Edit and fill out whatever information has changed or needs to be added. Please have all papers and information necessary to complete the application at hand. This is so you can provide your earnings and tax information and they can give you the best help that fits your particular situation. There are several pages that must be filled out to determine your eligibility that you must fill out and then they will ask for you to sign it electronically. Typically, this is done by simply putting your initials into the box provided.

Keep in mind that you must not lie or omit information or you may not end up with any financial aid. If you are a dependent, it is important to give all proper information from your parent's earnings. If you are independent then you do not need any information about what your parent's earnings are. You are a dependent until the age of twenty four and that is when they can no longer claim you.

The Federal deadline for FAFSA for 2010-2011 is June 30th, 2011 and the state deadlines vary state to state. Having the correct information will help the form be accepted and approved quickly. If you fill out the form properly, there should be no problem. There are possibilities of grants and scholarships that you can find to also help with funding your higher education.
