Many have experienced its extravagant shows and memorable designs during past events. This fall presents a change for Theatre goers. The Nederlander Detroit, Management company has been over seeing the Fischer Theatre since 1961 booking the best the theatre has to offer. Millions have visited this spectacular theatre.
The new renovations for the Fischer Theatre total around 1.5 million dollars and feature larger bathrooms and a restrooms catering to the handicapped for convenience and comfort. The biggest part of renovations in phase 1 is the new party room and new bars in their lobby's. Providing non-alcoholic beverages to patrons during intermissions and before the shows, for additional fees you can now purchase alcoholic beverages. In the past the Fischer Theatre did not allow alcohol in the lobby area somethings do change.
The Fischer Theatre Executive Director Alan Lichtenstein had comments on the upcoming season stating to the Detroit News, "We've got the hottest new shows and biggest stars, along with some of Detroit's great old favorites"
This seasons line up includes "Avenue Q" a Tony award winner of 2004 opening the season in November 2008 along with A Bronx Tale, A Chorus Line, and Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The Fischer Theatre still expects to do more renovations and continue to give the world a new experience. Phase 2 of the Fischer's renovations are scheduled to be done in the summer of 2009 totaling an additional $2.5 million dollars. They plan to add additional seating and another bar on the upper levels. The Fischer Theatre has been a great part of Detroit's history for years and will continue to bring us live entertainment and history.
Lichtenstein stated to Detroit news Laurence B. Johnson, "I don't think the economy ever keeps people from wanting to be entertained."
