NY Governors Debate Enlivened by the Rent is Too Damn High Candidate
Jimmy McMillan, wearing black gloves for some obscure reason, took to the floor and made sure the NY debate remained about the fact the rent is too damn high - at least whenever he was speaking.
It was "political theater verging on farce," according to the New York Times. Everyone thought the evening would be about a showdown between the current poll leader Democrat Andrew M. Cuomo and Republican Carl Paladino. But it turned into much more fun than that with the Rent is Too Damn High candidate on the stage.
Jimmy McMillan said , "As a karate expert, I will not talk about anyone up here, because our children can't afford to live anywhere. Nowhere. There's nowhere to go. Once again, why?" There was a pause in his diatribe, then he dais...."You said it. The rent is too damn high." The audience seemed to love him and they even participated a bit when prompted. Jimmy McMillan also had this to say about gay marriage, "If you want to marry a shoe, I'll marry you."
The Rent is Too Damn High candidate stayed on message throughout the debate and he never wavered on his stance that the rents in New York that too high.
There is even an official party website, The Rent is Too Damn High, where they announce that they are expecting that every "Union" and "Tenant Association" needs to support them. There are t-shirts for sale with the slogan Rent is 2 "DAMN" High, which I am sure will quickly become collector's items. The Rent is too Damn High site also claims that they can create 3 to 6 million new jobs, but they do not say how they will do that.
