REO Speedwagon Celebrate 30 Years in Style

I've been a fan of REO Speedwagon since I first heard their song, "Take It on the Run". Naturally, when my boyfriend asked if I wanted tickets to see the band perform at Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel, I was giddy with excitement. Not only was I going to see an awesome band, but this was my first real concert. We both wondered if the band was still up to performing an hour and half long concert. After all, their top album, Hi Infidelity, was number one in the world 30 years ago. Could they still belt out their awesome love ballads with as much force? You better believe it.

We arrived at the concert about 30 minutes early and their was classic rock music playing over the sound system, such as AC/DC and Tom Petty. It was a great way to get the crowd in the mood for the upcoming concert. When the concert started, it started with a bang. The light show was fantastic and the band was pumped and ready to rock the house.

REO Speedwagon did not let their fans down. They played all their #1 hits, plus some of the hardcore fans' favorites. As the concert went on, fans got more and more excited as their favorite songs made an appearance in the concert. When "Take It on the Run" started though, the crowd went nuts. The band got the audience involved in singing the song and it was awesome.

This was by far the best live music I have ever heard. The band did not slow down as the evening rolled on. The amount of energy they had for their performance was staggering. They would go from one high energy song to the next without pause. They were also all over the stage and truly rocking. In all honestly, with the amount of energy they used in their performance, I would have been laying on the stage after only one song and I'm in my 20s.

The performance was so great, people were crowding the stage and one fan even jumped the stage and ran behind the stage where the band was changing guitars and such. When it was all over, there were even fans lighting cigarette lighters like back in the old days.

If you loved REO Speedwagon in the 70s and 80s, you are still going to love them today. I highly recommend making it to one of their shows. If all possible, be sure to catch them on their current tour which is celebrating 30 years of their #1 album, Hi Infidelity. You will not be disappointed.

Good article, Amy. I've always liked REO Speedwagon although never seen them in concert. I believe the first concert I attended was Gordon Lightfoot. I won free tickets to Blue Oyster Cult back in the early '90's from a radio station. It was strange. I was driving down the road listening to the DJs announce where they were. Then I saw their vehicle pull into a music store parking lot. I rushed into the parking lot. When I parked they announced over the radio where they were. By the time I got in the store there was already a line. One of the DJs counted people in line and stopped the person ahead of me and said, "The rest of you might as well leave because you are not going to get tickets." I was about to leave but the lady ahead of me did not budge. So I stayed, too. I was the last one to get tickets.
