Michael Jackson's personal doctor injected the star with the drug that authorities believe killed him, according to an article released by the Associated Press. The report is based on a claim made by a law enforcement official who supposedly had knowledge into enquiry into Jackson's death.

Large amounts of the powerful anaesthetic propofol had been found on Jackson's premises during the investigation. Needle marks found on the MJ's body have led investigators to speculate that the star was using the sedative to help him sleep.

AP's source, who remains anonymous due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, stated that Dr. Conrad Murray gave Jackson the powerful drug the night of his death. Murray had been hired as the singer's personal physician just weeks before his death

Murray has been under investigation by authorities since the singer's death, and has been identified by court papers as the target of a manslaughter enquiry. He had initially cooperated with investigation authorities and maintained his innocence. However, dropped out of sight when authorities attempted to make to further the investigation.

A search warrant filed July 23 allowed investigators to search for "property or items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr. Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence."

Authorities filed the warrant a day after they seized items from the doctor's Houston clinic and a rented storage unit.

The court documents detailed items confiscated by authorities. They include 27 tablets of the weight loss drug phentermine, a tablet of the muscle relaxant clonazepam, two computer hard drives, e-mails and a controlled substance registration.

Murray's lawyer has stated that the physician had no part prescribing or administering any drug that might have killed Michael Jackson.

The LA County coroner's office is not expected to make an official announcement of what caused the star's death until later this week.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter has stated that he had sought information from a number of physicians and Murray is the only one he has yet to talk to.

Winter said Murray's lawyer had offered to talk with the coroner, but without Murray present.

"We don't want to talk to the attorney, we want to talk to Murray," Winter said.

Murray's lawyer claims Winter had not made any requests to interview his client.

More details are expected once the coroner's office findings have been officially released.
