Report of Low Morale for Police as Ferndale City Council Asks for Pay Cuts for Department
Neighborhood: Ferndale
Detroit, MI 48220
United States of America
The Ferndale City Council is asking officers in the Ferndale Police Department to take pay cuts to make up for some of the budget issues that the city is facing. This comes within months of the city of Ferndale laying off police officers to make room in the same budget.

I spoke with Ferndale residents over the last few days, and many believe that this is one of the biggest issues facing the city of Ferndale right now. Andrea Miller, a twenty year Ferndale resident said, "I think that it is silly that the police department has to take more cuts." She believed that the city should cut in other areas, and leave the police department alone.

I spoke with one Ferndale police officer who informed me that morale in the force is pretty low right now. He told me, "We just went through a round of layoffs, now we are supposed to take cuts to our money? There are some officers that are ready to say enough is enough and look for positions in other cities." The question is, is the money that will be saved worth loosing more good officers to other communities?
