Children's Bible May Have Saved Family Members From A Shot Bullet
According to WKYC story (which comes with a video) by Marc Magill from April 3, 2008, "Bible stops bullet shot into a Geauga County home", a teenager was hunting in the Hambden Township of Ohio on Sunday night March 30 when he shot a deer slug with a 12-gauge shotgun which traveled through the east side of a family's home, and only stopped after striking a children's bible in a closet in one of the Milks' family bedrooms. No one in the home was hurt, and the teenager, a year under the age of 18, "apologized profusely" the next day. The family, according to the video, wants to use their story to promote gun safety. The children's bible that stopped the bullet was the kind my brother and I had based on the appearance of the cover.
Civil War Era Bible Stopped Bullet
Accounts of a bible stopping a bullet go back even to Civil War Times. According to Dave's Urban Legends Blog entry, called "Bible Stops Bullet, Saves Soldier's Life", written by Dave Emery on August 15, 2007, he speaks of an account from 1861 periodical called The National Preacher and Village Pulpit, where a Union soldier from Massachusetts got a pocket-sized Bible from his sister prior to heading off to war. He kept it in his pocket, and when he was shot at during combat, this particular bible stopped the bullet, leaving the soldier with a physical bruise only.
Bible Stops Bullet From Entering Soldier's Heart
According to a staff article found at NewsMax.com from August 9, 2007 Bible Stopped Sniper's Bullet, a soldier by the name of Brendan Schweigart, a Private First Class at the time, was shot by a sniper in Iraq. Schweigart is a man of the Christian faith, according to the article, and kept a bible over his heart area that he got from Basic Training. He was wounded in the arm and chest, but the bible trapped the bullet, keeping it from entering his ticker. The bible says in Ephesians 6:16, "...take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (New International Version)". Mr. Schweigart can certainly call The Good Book a tool (or shield) of faith!
Gideons New Testament Bible Stops Bullet Fired In Florida
According the November 7, 2006 article in the Florida Times-Union by Ken Lewis called "LAW & DISORDER: Bible in man's pocket stops bullet", one of the Gideons New Testament Bibles in the shirt pocket of an unidentified Orange Park, Florida man stopped a rifle bullet from an apparent ambush by two men as the fortunate man was taking out the trash early one morning. The man reportedly was planning to give the bibles to his friends, but this act of faith probably saved the man's life.
Just Don't Be Carrying Around A Steel-Bound Bible When Shot!
During World War II, soldiers used to carry around bibles with steel covers. It would seem that would be a wise thing to do as I initially thought a steel cover bible would stop a bullet, but this wasn't the case . According to the Stars And Stripes article appearing August 10, 1944 by Ed Wilcox called "How to duck that old GI jinx", a couple of soldiers who had these kinds of bibles over their hearts actually had to have not only the bullet taken out of them by the Medics, but also the bits of the steel from the bible, too! Soldiers were advised to carry only leather- or cloth-bound bibles around in this article from the last full year of that war.

Post a CommentWhile I think that this is pretty neat, what does it really go to show? Mainly that if we gave a number of people a fairly thick book to carry around and then shot at them, the book would probably stop the bullets at least once in awhile. Now, if this showed that the Bible was more likely to stop a bullet than an equally thick Koran or, I don't know, Atlas Shrugged, that would be saying something.
excellent!!!!
Excellent article and not surprising at all.
