Reported Tornadoes and Tornado Damage Strike Southwest Kansas

Evan Benson
Around 4 p.m. in Dodge City, Kan., the skies turned quickly from sunny to stormy. Skies started to darken and change color quick. Two storms were around the Dodge City area; one East, and one West. At 5 p.m. Tornado warning issued for Ford County, in an area south of Dodge City. A little after 17:00 there was a confirmed tornado 3 South West of Fort Dodge, the Tornado was seen from the Dodge City National Weather Service Office. Hail the size of golf ball's, to as large as baseball's were reported throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Tornado sirens around 5 p.m. were blaring off in Dodge City, KS to warn the residents of a tornado. The local mall shut down and the store employees left for the basement of the mall to be safe. Many streets in Dodge City were flooded including the Mall parking lot where many cars were under 18+ inches of water. Land and tree damage near Fort Dodge, KS was reported.

This is the second time in a week that the Tornado sirens have warned residences. As well as everyday starting from Wednesday, June 10 we have been in a severe thunderstorm watch, warning and Tornado watches, and warnings. Southwest Kansas has been seeing an increase of severe storms covering the area and scientists and meteorologists have been in the area recently to map weather patters to hopefully understand why this is happening. Could it be mother nature having a fit, or global warming.

Wow, pretty wild. I have never been in a Tornado but would love to go tornado chasing someday.

On June 15, were there any official reports of storm damage south of Kinsley? Have seen one photo with a power flash under a possible tornado between 5:25 and 5:40PM SE of that community and know of another, unofficial, report of utility poles down and some structural damage to buildings also SE of there.
