At the same time, take a look at how Americans seem to live. Americans tend to live like pigs by an overwhelming majority because you barely see someone in society who even shows the qualities of what Falwell wanted. Sure, some might be against abortion. However, they still talk about pimping, whores, prostitutes, and they still use the "f" word in every sentence as well as other sexual talk and having sex before marriage. Those were all things that the "moral majority" was against and remember, the Republicans all believe in the "moral majority" doctrine. If that is the case, I would say at least 60-65% of the population should be Democrat because the Democratic Party has not been in alliance with the "moral majority." So I often wonder why the Democratic Party is not winning every single time it is election time for the presidency or the mid-terms.
I came up with many theories on why that is true. I first thought that maybe a lot of these Americans who you see just don't vote. That was true to an extent but still with how this country seems to act, even if a good majority of them didn't vote, I still would think the Democrats would win. Then I thought about the government thing and how much government the Democrats supposedly believed in. I thought that was false also because the majority of the public wants things to be done with the help of the government such as universal health care, trade, and I think even taxes. So there was only one other possible explanation left. I came to the conclusion that good chunks of the GOP are hypocrites when they preach Falwell's beliefs and then turn around and act slimy.
That does go true with the American public but it is also true with the Republican lawmakers you hear so much about. For example, we have had many slimy Republican lawmakers just within the past year or so. First there was a scandal out on old Duke Cunningham and a few other Republican Congressmen who were having sex with prostitutes in Washington DC. We could never prove that to be true but there was the rumors out there, which always gives you suspicion that it did happen. Then there was the disgraced Congressman Mark Foley of Florida who claimed to be tuff against child pedophiles and then we found out he was one himself. Next we had Senator David Vitter from Louisiana who claimed he was a very moral religious Republican but then his name turns up on the DC Madam's phone list. Then we find out that David Vitter actually had many dates set up with the madam of many sex appointments, while he claims to be moral and moral people are faithful to their wives. Finally, we have my favorite case of hypocrisy from the Republicans when Senator Larry Craig of Idaho was caught with his own sex scandal when he was arrested for trying to have sex with another male in a Minnesota bathroom. That of course backfired on him because the guy he was attempting to have sex with was an off duty police officer who had Craig arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for attempting to have gay sex in a bathroom. After the scandal was broken to the media, Larry Craig was advised by Arlen Specter, a Republican Senator of Pennsylvania to fight this case. Craig ended up deciding to drop his guilty plea and fight the case! A moral person would have accepted the fact that he did it, apologize, and take the guilty plea. However, this worm didn't even do that and then to make his hypocrisy even worse, Craig was supposedly against gay marriage and voted to convict Bill Clinton of the same thing back in the 1990s. Therefore Larry Craig is as hypocritical as they come.
After I saw all of those cases, I knew that the Republicans were all hypocrites and really didn't support the moral majority. I guess that is why in 2006, that actual moral people broke with the Republicans and voted for the Democrats. There are some people that do follow the "moral majority" doctrine. For example, Senator John McCain, like him or hate him wanted Larry Craig immediately gone from the Senate after it happened and told him to step down. McCain has been a true conservative thinker for a long time and yet, the Republicans spit on him and decide to vote for a cross dressing former mayor of New York City who has little morality. Rudy Giuliani doesn't try to suck up to the "moral majority" but this shows the Republicans to be all hypocrites because John McCain really should be the frontrunner right now but he is not and they are going for a guy who has very little in common with the "moral majority." Therefore, the Republicans are hypocrites and really are pigs just like they claim the Democrats are.
As a matter a fact, when I compare the parties by looking at their representatives, it seems that the Democrats have been cleaner with sex scandals than the Republicans have. Sure, the Democrats had Bill Clinton cheating on Hillary Clinton. However, the Republicans have had Foley, Vitter, and Craig all within less than a year of time and then we have the suspicion of a sex scandal involving prostitutes with Cunningham and three other Republican Congressmen. So looking at the parties in Congress, who seems to be more moral to you, the Republicans or the Democrats? As of now it looks like the Democrats are and it becomes lopsided when you add in all of the other corruption scandals they have been involved in such as the Tom Delay scandal, the Abramoff scandal, and the CIA leak scandal in the White House as well as many more scandals we can keep listing.
In conclusion the Republicans are by no means a moral party and when you look at society and how they act as a whole, it really is not a moral country. I don't want to say it is immoral because people are turned off by things and enjoy talking about things that satisfy them such as sex. But to claim you are part of the "moral majority" when you contradict them is wrong, which is why these scandals hurt the Republicans much more than the Democrats. After all, the Democrats are already seen as immoral pigs, so if a Democrat does something, we shrug it off and say "I figured." But when a Republican does it, we go bonkers because they say how moral they are and then we find out that they contradict themselves and have acted like immoral pigs. The true "moral majority" Falwell believed did not preach this kind of stuff that you have received from Vitter, Foley, and Craig, nor does it promote a society like this one. However, most of society is completely different from the "moral majority" and Republicans like Vitter, Foley, and Craig didn't truly believe in this movement either even though they pretended they did. The Republicans do not believe in the "moral majority." The Republicans are basically just like any other American and they only pretend to be proper and say to support the "moral majority." However as we all know now with all of these scandals and how society is today that the Republicans truly don't support the "moral majority" and that they are just lying to you.

Not everyone insulted you Sean. Keep plugging away bud.
Probably because like everyone else, you were here to insult me and only you went too far.
cool my remarks were deleted- so much for ac being an open forum
Mr. Bracken, after reading your "article" I was a little disappointed. It was merely an extended blog-rant on how immoral the elected Republican leaders of our nation are. You provided no proof to your point that the Democrats are any better other than to not mention any of the numerous scandals in which they are involved. I found your opinion and train of thought to be underdeveloped and immature. I suggest you do a bit more reading before you continue your writing. Best of luck to you.
Im glad Jerry Falwell is dead. That pious bigot fuck. I hope Pat Robertson isnt too far behind him.
Jim, you are mean to me and trash my article and yet, you think that I am going to read yours? I'm not going to contribute to nothing.
And Stephanie, I will continue to fight and make my points known. I want to express how I feel, not be silenced.
Sean, you should give it up. There is no way you will ever get a right-winger to agree with you. I had a classmate in college who had the same attitude as these guys. I had to laugh when I read "That is not to say there are not evangelicals within the Party cause they do exist..." our commander in chief is one of them. Maybe one of us should right an article defining Opinion/Commentary. Apparently, some people don't know what that means.
Furthermore, I refer you to my 2 very recent articles about Jeff Musall's fiction novella HERETICS, US:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/386188/heretics_us.html
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/384792/heretics_us.html
These articles deal with the subject of Jeff's book, namely a neo-fascist Christian Right wing cabal that tries to take over first the US gov't, then extend to the rest of the world US hegemony. I highly suggest you get this book. Click on his producer page and it links to his book publisher. Jeff's fiction puts forth the same theory about which you wrote this article.
Sean, I'm sorry Dude, but the MM is dead as a doornail. Any hope they ever had to exert a steering of the Conservative movement has passed. That is not to say there are not evangelicals within the Party cause they do exist, but they don't have the power you think they do. Conservatism is far more about free market economy and small gov't principles, FROM WHICH WE HAVE STRAYED, and the Party has been hurt by this. We are about preserving traditional American ideals, including the Christian principles on which the US was founded, but only as GUIDING principle. I am certain that when it comes to typical US citizen's beliefs' the most firm of all our principles are the freedom of worship and belief, or to freely not worship or believe. The rest is just your Lib imagination.
