Republican Led Congress Even Less Popular Than Bush
New Poll Shows Bush's Approval at 37 %, CONGRESS at 25%
The Republican Led Congress
A recent poll conducted by the Times and CBS shows that only 25 % of Americans approve of the job that the Republican led Congress is doing right now. Bush's approval rating is at an astronomical 37%! Evidently the only thing American's hate more than an incompetent, arrogant president is a Congress that follows such a leader so blindly.
Is it any wonder both our president and our legislative branch fall so far below our expectations? Have they accomplished anything at all? There is an old saying that goes, "It is possible to produce nothing but destruction." Usually it was used to pan such instruments of destruction as the atomic bomb but it certainly fits the political product being produced in Washington right now too.
So just what do we have to show for placing our trust in the republicans?
1. A vast deficit that will be left for America's youth to deal with.
2. A government that says terrorism is on the decline but then stops counting attacks because they want to label Iraqi insurgents terrorist. If they count them it will look like there are thousands of new attacks each year. No Fair!
3. New warnings from scientists that global warming will produce dire consequences sooner than expected and it may be too late to stop it! No fair again, George W. just found out it really exists!
4. Billions of dollars that could have gone to education, health care, social security or ….tax breaks?.....instead blown every year in Iraq.
5. Afghanistan slowly reverting to its pre-9/11 status. Taliban on the rise. Opium production hits new record again this year. Most wanted terrorists sipping tea comfortably somewhere in Pakistan. Hey what happened to those American troops and all that money who were going to rebuild the country? Oh yeah, they go sent to Iraq!
6. A few rich people get a token tax break while everyone who is living from paycheck to paycheck, 35 % of the workforce according to a recent poll, still has to pay the usual amount.
7. Another new security agency, the Department of Homeland Security. It seems like another secretive bureaucratic spy agency is all we needed! Don't they already blame the FBA and CIA for every national security blunder (pre-war Iraq intelligence, 9/11 security blunders). Must have needed another fall guy.
8. A nation more divided along partisan lines than it has been since the Civil War. And we were just starting to get along too!
9. The start of a brand new unlimited war to replace the Cold War! Man, just when they stopped making kids practice the ol' duck and cover drill!
10. Like all fine lists this one has been pushed to ten. The existence of yet another top ten list is reason enough to hate the Republicans and George W. Bush a little bit more!
You can't blame them though. If the world would just stop being so danged ornery and do what the Republicans want it to do none of this would be happening. In all honesty I think I am more afraid of a Republican controlled Washington that knows it is on its way out than anything else. They may just bring the ship down with them, they have nothing else to lose. Oh, wait.... they already have!
