Republican News: A Star is Born, Maybe

Could Conservative Politics Benefit with a New Face?

Deborah Oakes, NPS
Future Republican news might include a new star for conservative politics. On The View today, Whoopi Goldberg told Elisabeth Hasselback she should run for office.

This republican news just might be what the conservative political party needs. Whoopi made her declaration after Elisabeth discredited emails sent by conservatives showing President Obama in various photos. The emails are fabricated.

The View's Elisabeth Hasselback

Elisabeth set the record straight on several erroneous emails sent by conservatives. Photos of President Obama had wrong information attached to them that made him look unpatriotic. She showed the photos and explained what they actually were. When she was finished, Whoopi told her she should be the new face for Republican politics. Whoopi said she would help her campaign.

Elisabeth looked surprised but didn't answer so at least she isn't negative about this suggestion. The Republican party could use a national personality who is known for passion and integrity. She could be a fresh face that might lead the party, which is scrambling to find their platform, to success.

Conservative Politics

In 2001 Elisabeth was a contestant on Survivor. In 2003 she joined The View and is known as the conservative political voice. She is noted for 3 heated debates on the show.

1) In 2006, she strongly opposed the Food and Drug Administration's plan to sell the "morning after pill" as an over-the-counter drug. She stated, "I believe that life begins at the moment of conception."

2) In 2007, she and Rosie O'Donnell had a heated argument about the war in Iraq which she supports. When Rosie was attacked by conservatives, she felt Elisabeth should defend her. Elisabeth responded she shouldn't have to defend anyone else's words for them, especially when they have a forum to present a defense.

3) Again in 2007, Hasselbeck and Whoopi Goldberg got into a discussion about a proposal that the US Government provide savings bonds for each child at birth. The conversation became heated when Hasselbeck stated it would lead to fewer abortions due to women wanting to keep the money.

In The View episode today, the conservative political controversy over Obama bowing to foreign leaders came up. Although the discussion wasn't heated, Elisabeth indicated it isn't as big a deal as what is being accomplished with these meetings.

Republican News

Obviously, Elisabeth thinks for herself, is passionate, clear headed and not afraid to take a stand. As a possible candidate for a party foundering to find its way, Elisabeth Hasselback might become the best Republican news in a long time.

She has more brains than Palin, so that's a start.

Elisabeth is certainly very passionate about her political views, so that's a start. :-)

Elisabeth, go for it! She may be small but can hold her own against ultra liberal Joy!

I do not follow The View, but if this lady will help Republicans to get over their fascination with the conniving idiot, Sarah Palin, then I wish her well.

Yeah, I remember her from Survivor too. She seems willing to stand up for what she believes.

    Hmmm!!!!

That was an interesting article. She does pretty well holding her own on a show where she is the ONLY conservative voice!

I do remember her from Survivor, I suspect she has grown and matured much since then. Wish her all the best... :)
