Republican Party Should Expel Those Who Are Out to Make a Fast Buck at the Party's Expense

If the Party Doesn't Learn Its Lessons from the Farewell Warnings of Congressman Bob Inglis, Chances Are that it Will Become Irrelevant for the Future

(Please note: The writer of this article has voted for both Republicans and Democrats and has a centrist attitude to politics.)

Bob Inglis, the South Carolina Congressman who was defeated in the primary runoff gave a warning to his own Republican Party about the dangers of playing into the hands of the Tea Party mob:

"It's a dangerous strategy to build conservatism on information and policies that are not credible....there are people who seem to think that ignorance is strength. If I choose to remain ignorant and uninformed and encourage people to follow me while I celebrate my lack of information, that's not being responsible."

To me what is happening to the Republican Party is not only irresponsible but also suicidal, inexorably sliding into depths of irrelevance in the future political landscape of this country.

It is disastrous how Palin and Beck are trying to cash in on the "Your President has a dark skin" paranoia to corner Republican votes. This will have two dangers for the Republican party:

1. It will enhance the image of Democratic Party as the saviors of minority communities. The floating, undecided votes of minorities will be consolidated in favor of Democrats.

2. Failure of the Republican Party bosses to boldly put down this internal rebellion will not only result in an immediate set back, but will permanently erode the whites base of the Republican party because the whites' votes are getting divided

The so called Tea Party activism will not make much dent in Democratic numbers. But it will definitely unsettle the Republican vote bank.

Palin and Beck are actually misreading the electoral lessons of Obama's win to the White House. I didn't vote for Obama, as my choice this time was McCain. Demographics of this country prove that some of the Tea Party's paranoid assumptions are wrong. The glaring mistake is thinking Obama got elected with African American votes only. The demographic break up of this country is:

64% Caucasians
16% Hispanics
13% African Americans
7% Others.

So the idea that Barak Obama got elected as President of USA just with African American or minority votes alone is wrong and misleading. Because whites form two-third of the population. A considerable number of whites did vote for Obama despite his mixed ancestry, otherwise he couldn't have won.

So the effects of the present polarization in Republican Party will be consolidation of those votes behind Barak Obama again though not necessarily behind the Democratic Party.

Many Tea Party aficionados think that the present economic climate is ideal for a political victory. Far from it.

While the people of this country are not all economists, most are sufficiently knowledgeable to realize that most Presidents in the last six decades had time only to try and reverse the actions of their opposite party - most of the time pure politics including foreign wars and nothing to do with the economy of this country.

Even if Obama is not re-elected through misinformation, the benefits of his actions now accrues to whites too and will ultimately help the Democratic Party. By opposing everything for principle, Republicans are slowly acquiring an anti-people image, whether they know it or not. They wrongly assume and talk as if whites are not affected by the present economic downturn or that they are not losing jobs. That only minorities are getting the benefits of Obama's policies. Such myopic propaganda will prove too costly for their party.

And added to these troubles the mistimed mutiny raised by opportunistic insiders like Palin and Beck means real trouble for the Party. Unless the Republican Party bosses now take decisive action against the Tea Party mutineers, their future and survival as a true national party is in doubt. And one cannot expect that courage from the top brass with people like Boehner at the helm of affairs.

At this juncture, there are only two ways, both varying only in their destructive capabilities, in front of the party:

1. Boldly expel Tea Party mutineers from Republican Party - yes, this will have immediate consequences including loss of the next elections. But the setbacks are only temporary. Future is secure.

Any idea that mutineers are capable of establishing a third party is wishful thinking as the Tea Partying is just piggy-backing on the good names of other Republican party stalwarts of the past and the present.

2. Timidly do nothing and lose both the Present and the Future. This is a permanent damage that will restrict Republicans to some pockets of voters in this country.

The question is:

Will the Republican Party bosses have the courage to weed out some "here-today-gone-tomorrow" opportunists who are out to make a fast buck "making hay while the sun shines?"

Both Palin and Beck haven't risen from the level of talk show artists. Their rabble-rousing speeches are the epitomes of ignorance and are unbecoming of a Party co-founded by none other than the Great Soul, Abraham Lincoln.

More dangerous are the Bolsheviks who are slowly infiltrating the Tea Party under the "scholarly-looking" cover of "John G(est)alt" banners. Funny that some ex-communists are trying to teach Americans capitalism that too piggy-backing on Tea Party who in their turn already piggy-backing on the Republican Party. That kind of overloaded ponying will ultimately bring all the Republican wagon down.

I wrote an article during last presidential election about the dangers of Barak Obama winning with the votes from draft-dodgers because there was no way Obama could stop wars immediately. While Bush's war was never right, it doesn't mean that draft-dodgers are right.

As expected the draft-dodgers are now regrouping, demanding respect with Ayn Rand slogans and are trying to re-enter the Republican Party through the Tea Party backdoor. These bolsheviks-turned-capitalists party-wreckers will be the ultimate undoing of the Tea Party too as these are guys who think joining the army is for gaining admission to colleges only and has nothing to do with soldiering.

But the Republican Party has the time for none of these "luxurious thinking" and can't wait for Ayn Rand Bolsheviks to gain control of the Tea Party and destroy it. Because that will take decades and Republican Party will be reduced to a splinter if not a sliver by that time.

So they have no choice but to expel Palin, Beck and Co now ruthlessly for survival and that means Now! Tomorrow can be too late.

Some ignorant talk show hosts who are out to better their "talking" business and finance interests shouldn't be allowed to destroy a party whose history is entwined with that of the nation. They are out there only to garner publicity for their shows and books. They don't even care one bit for the future of the Republican Party that gave them a platform to grow up and be known.

If the present Republican leadership don't have the spine and the guts to expel unruly opportunists like Palin and Beck, then even God has no choice but forsake them. If they are cowards, they should step down and let others manage the Party.

The earlier they heed the warnings of Bob Inglis about the dangers of dallying with the fatal combination of irresponsibility, immaturity and ignorance, that mediocrity will be what the Republican Party will be inheriting at the end.

A house divided against itself cannot and will not stand. So some purging is absolutely necessary for the Republican Party for escaping sure extinction. That too, NOW! Tomorrow can be too late.
