Republicans Acting like a Bunch of Whiny Babies, as Usual

Rick Dane
After the election of Barack Obama, to the presidency of the United States, Republicans were successful at one thing, and one thing only. They were successful at inciting hate throughout the United States and organizing tea parties to protest the will of the American people. Always ones to try to claim the moral high ground, they acted as if the people who had elected the president, by a definitive majority, were somehow traitors, or un-American. The Republican news outlet, Fox news, not only enthusiastically covered these rallies, but in a first for a major news network, they actually sponsored many of the rallies and aided in putting them on. As for the rest of us, we waited out this nonsense and finally it did die down.

Now the Republicans are starting up again, by claiming that they will be beginning a new round of town hall meetings, and possibly more rallies. This time they are furious over the health care bill in Congress. For some reason, they keep saying that they want to make sure that every member of Congress reads the bill before voting. This, despite the fact that Congress has agreed to release the full text of the bill to the public. Anyone who wants to read it can read it. Rather than taking out specific points that are extremely oppressive, or horrible in some other way, the Republicans simply cite the fact that the bill is extremely long, as if this somehow makes it bad.

We are sure to hear me more half-truths and outright lies from the Republicans in the coming months regarding the health care bill. However, it is important for Americans to keep in mind that since the bill will be made publicly viewable, it is easy to refute the claims, or to at least fact check them. Surely, this bill will have its flaws. It is being written by politicians, after all, and any American would be naïve to think that they truly have the best interests of the general public at heart at all times. However, it is hard to make a case that there is not a need for health care reform in this country.

Rather than providing legitimate alternatives or citing specifics in the current bill that are problematic, and offering solutions, the Republicans simply choose to continue their witch hunt in a never ending quest to appeal to the fringe of their party.
