Since assuming the office of President of the United States, President Obama has found himself in an ongoing fight to get any legislation passed in the Senate or the House of Representatives.
Like a dog nipping at your heels, Republicans have been a constant aggravation to the president and show no signs of lessening their resistance.
Just over a week ago, President Obama and Democrats suffered a major setback to their efforts to deal with the problems facing America. In unmistakable fashion, voters overturned the House of Representatives by overwhelmingly electing more than 50 new Republican representatives, which gave them majority control over the House.
Americans were not happy and they used their vote to show it.
Republican lawmakers have made it painfully clear that they do not approve of the president's policies or governmental philosophy. But their disapproval seems to go beyond a dislike for his political ideals and viewpoints. It seems to lean more toward a personal dislike for the man himself.
Republican lawmakers and Republicans in general, have been blistering, to the point of being insulting and disrespectful, in their criticism of President Obama and his style of governing.
From a congressional representative shouting "You lie" during a presidential address before a joint session of Congress to radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh calling the president disparaging names, President Obama has been the target of some of the most vile, venomous, hate-filled attacks directed toward any president in recent history.
And the attacks began from the moment that he assumed the presidency.
Before the president could get comfortable in his chair in the Oval Office he found himself under attack. And the attack continues.
Not only has President Obama been the victim of unkind treatment but the First lady, Michelle Obama has also been the target of unwarranted criticism.
Even the president and first lady's then 11-year-old daughter Malea was viciously ridiculed by Glenn Beck on his radio show several months ago when he mocked her for asking her father the president, had they "plugged the hole yet", referring to the BP oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.
These attacks along with those directed toward the president, smack of a distinct personal dislike toward the president and his family.
But why?
What has President Obama or his family done to earn the hatred of so many people?
The answer to that question is obvious but for me to give it would bring nasty stuff my way and the accusation of "playing the race card."
But that's exactly what it has to do with. Race and their hatred for him as an African American.
And unfortunately for America, Republicans are blinded by it.
Before President Obama even took office Republicans had already decided that they were going to "oppose through the nose" everything that that he proposed legislatively. That is the reason why some their opposition has bewildered even those of their own party.
Just about everything that the president has proposed has been necessary and good yet still Republicans were in opposition to it for seemingly opposition's sake.
Why else would they oppose extension of unemployment benefits? Finance reform? Health care reform? A jobs bill?
Their excuse is that it adds too much to the deficit and it can't be paid for. But those same lawmakers who scoff at President Obama's "out of control spending" are the same ones who voted unequivocally to fund both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Neither of which were "paid for."
These excuses are flimsy attempts to cover up the real reason for their stance.
And that is, they hate the fact that they have an African American as the leader of this nation, they want him to fail miserably and they are willing to do anything (including crippling this country) to accomplish their goal.
Right now, the Republican Party does not have the welfare of Americans or the nation in mind as they conduct their business in Washington.
Republican Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell himself stated that the most important goal of the Republican Party in Washington was to "insure that President Obama is a one-term president."
With laser-like focus they are zeroing in on only one agenda and that is to make sure that this president fails by any means necessary.
Doesn't sound like "country first" to me.
