Republicans for Obama

Why I Choose to Support a Democratic President

Rose Richmond
Born and raised in a Republican family, I always thought I would remain a Republican until I died. I stood in line for 2 hours both times to vote for Ronald Reagan. I voted for both Bushes. Yea I know, I voted for good ole "W". I defended him and the Republican stance for many, many years. I thought being a Republican meant supporting whomever was there. Kind of Blind Faith!

As we go into this history making election, my feelings as to where my vote will go this time is both an eyeopening event and new way of thinking for the future. I will not support John McCain in this election. As a Texan and coming from the Dallas area, knowing the hold of Big Oil and seeing the disappearance of jobs here, I do not feel John McCain can get the job done. I don't see his way of thinking doing anything about our economy.

First of all, we only have two choices here. It isn't like we had a great list to start with. Second, John McCain has run before and nobody wanted him to win then.

Barack Obama is our choice other than McCain. Whether Liberal or Conservative, his thinking, his genuine effort to be honest, his efforts to talk about the issues and his efforts to find out as much as possible about solving the issues and his concern to show the real man and his family. His true desire to lead us to better.

I don't expect Obama to go into the office of President as a 100% experienced President. Who has done that before? No one has gone into this office for the 1st time with the experience to do that particular job. John McCain has not led anything in his life. We have to always acknowledge his military service, but to be honest his leadership from that second to date has not been in a leadership capacity. He has spoke his peace in the Senate and raised a family. What else? I don't know of anything he has done that gave him the experience to be in this office. Getting shot down and surviving don't count I don't think, do they?

Honesty.....Here John has had numerous occasions to look right in the camera and the face of America and lie like a wet rug? According to Wonkette.com a few of the many times he skirted around the truth were the infamous Keating Savings & Loan Scandals, the sweet looking lobbyist that he didn't have an affair with or maybe the ethics group that he initiated, that turned out to be as crooked as the lobbyists groups it was investigating. All John McCain.

Issues......John McCain will stand on TV and tell us all that he is genuinely concerned about whether or not I have gas to drive to the other side of Dallas to work at a job that I can't afford not to go to in order to put gas in to go back to work the next week, to pay for groceries that have increased by over 15 percent in the last year? Please......when did he ever have to pay for anything with any effort in his entire life? Has wife Cindy ever worked for a minimum wage or barely above?
His demeanor when he is on camera is very condescending and out there in left field. I don't think John McCain knows what to really do about health care. I have heard bare minimum ideas from him. He generalizes but doesn't have anything concrete.

Handling of his campaign......At a time when America is at a crossroads to either a crisis situation or a way to finally pull together and solve this country's issues, John McCain has chosen on every turn to try and pick a fight with Barack Obama. I understand the process of an election, but I also understand that our economy is in crisis, the Iraq war that was a lie to begin with, has to be solved not continued and America has to restore it's name and respect in the world. John McCain acts like a desperate man in every aspect of his campaign. He is like my grandmother used to say, " running around like a chicken with it's head chopped off"!

Barack Obama is an honest man. Bottom line, no matter his race, no matter party affiliation, I trust him. As a Republican, I will support Barack Obama all the way to the White House and beyond. I do not trust John McCain. I don't trust him.

Barack has offered real solutions. He knows he needs Bi-Partisant support to do anything. As a Republican my hope is that more Republicans will see that what he is trying to do is bring this country together. His attitude and his words have said that over and over. He wants us to be respected again. Not considered bullies. Look at the Russia situation. Do we have the manpower to fight them? Yet, Cheney issues ultimatums. What does anyone think John McCain would do? Can we afford another hot head in the White House?

Being a Republican for Barack Obama means being open minded and being open to new ways of thinking. Not a Republican way of thinking or a Democrat way of thinking, but an American way of thinking. I don't want to continue to be hated by everybody. I feel Obama can bring the country back to a country of caring and proud people who don't want to be in charge of the World, they want to be a partner with the World. I think he understands that this country needs help. The infrastructure, the economy, the general attitude of every American needs an uplifting change and cooperating spirit. That is how we solve the problems we are continually faced with. Not running around making threats and looking stupid.

As a Republican for Obama, I feel obligated to work for his cause. As an American, I feel obligated to support the positive change he thinks he can bring.

Interesting article, McCain or Obama will be a marked improvement in my view.

Lovely essay. Until recently, I was a Democrat with a lot of respect for McCain (although I never planned to vote for him). Lately, I am really, really turned off by McCain's negative ads. Obama seems to be playing a much healthier and more postive political game right now.

"Republican for Obama" is the biggest oxymoron I've seen. If you truly believe in your Republican values, Obama is not your candidate. True, McCain's not the perfect candidate, but compared to Obama he's Ronald Reagan. Don't waste your vote.

Excellent article. It's nice to see so many American's coming together now as just that - American's. Hopefully other Republican's will read this and take note that it's not about party lines anymore and just electing a Democrat or Republican because that's your affiliation. But electing the person who is right for the job. Well done. If I weren't already an Obama supporter, I'd probably support him after reading this : )
