Republicans "Sabotage" Internet: "Worst Failure Ever" Yields "Obama Administration"

Worst Failure Ever is Actually This Republican Stunt

Gary Davis
What is the "Worst failure ever?" I don't know if that kind of "absolute" could even be measured. However the phrase is being bandied around this weekend. What is the worst failure ever?

In the Technology Section of The Inquisitor written by section author Duncan Riley there is an article posted titled "Republicans game Google: Worst Failure Ever=Obama Administration."

What does that title mean? That means if you type in your search bar "worst failure ever," or "Google" your search, you will get the response of "Obama Administration."

This is called in the world of internet technology a "bomb" or in this case more appropriately a "Google bomb." A bomb means trying to increase the positioning of any particular article by adding link after link to the targeted page.

In 2007 Google had indicated that they had the ability to prevent "bombing" but this occurrence seems to say otherwise.

No doubt the bomb will be removed but probably not until the end of the weekend.

You can see how it works if you care to by typing worst failure ever into Google.

That's pretty much the story, or is it?

You know I'm about as conservative as they come. Many of my friends used to say I was "just to the right of Reagan." However, I am confused and astounded by this act.

If indeed Republican activists have pulled this stunt they are no friend to the Republican Party.

We are dealing with three very important issues with this event.

The first is the basic issue of trying to control and skewer public information. Yes, everyone does it but usually that occurs prior to information going up on the internet.

The next issue is that of ridiculing our government. Now I understand that the government is fair game but what I'm talking about is using the government as some type of "target of disrespect." Fixing it so that every time you type "worst failure ever" the Obama Administration will come up is a far cry from intelligent debate and shows no respect for our country, not just the administration.

The third problem is this: When we elect public officials, is this what we expect? Is the best these particular people can do is to try and play internet games? What is actually being accomplished?

If people know what has happened and that if they put in worst failure ever they will get the "Obama administration;" what and who looks stupid?

I mean, if you punched that in and saw "Obama administration" would you then shrug your shoulders and say "Okay, I guess I'll be a Republican?"

As I said I am a conservative. However I don't believe that any doctrine should be followed blindly.

The Republican Party has been losing power over the last few years and that is what allowed Obama to get elected; Republican politicians have been making bad decisions.

"Google bombing" the Obama Administration shows just how out of touch the Republicans are right now.

Thank you Gary for the info and your post defending yourself. We do need to all stand together. Ignorance and petty sneak attacks are not what Americans are about, or so I thought. I have very moral beliefs, but generally vote liberal. Why? Not because I believe in everything they stand for, but because I don't think the government should dictate certain moral choices. If God gave us free will isn't that good enough?

Brice...I don't think I'll "shut up"...Did you even read my political position!? Your position apparently is they are stupid and immature so it's alright if we do the same thing." That isn't funny--it's sad and it explains the sad state of this country.

I think its hilarious that there was no press when the same thing happened to Bush...

  • Mr. Lucas Brice7/22/2009

Why is it that when the Dems did the same thing to Bush, there wasn't a word about it in the press, no one called it "immature," there was no hand-wringing, or Democratic recriminations? It's a stunt. It's funny. Shut up.

I've been getting a lot of hate email against Obama lately in my in-box from my fellow church members, and I have to wonder how much of this propaganda is racially motivated. I am a devout Christian, and I thought that we are to hate no one. Because of these tactics, and because both parties of basically corrupt, I am pretty much apolitical. To me the spiritual side of my life if far more important than trying to overthrow the government of the United States (some of these messages are so radical that's the impression they give me of what these uber conservatives really want). I do my civic duty and vote according to my morals, but at the same time, I consider myself to be a citizen of a higher world.

Excellent analysis. To Duane, this is not peaceful protest but immature smear tactics.

You are forgetting one basic ideal here. Peaceful protest. Gandhi never raised a fist, but he did everything he could to be a disturbance to the British. Little things like this are not only effective in letting the left know we are still here, but they also serve as civil disobedience. I hope more things like this "happen" rather than sit idle just taking the administration's nonsense.
