Requiem

Charlotte Kuchinsky
STOP! If you are one of the ones happy with the recent turn of events, read no further. You won't like what you read here and you will feel compelled to send me threats, which I in turn will report and we will create a whole other series of stupid, senseless events.

Just as it is your right to feel happy, it is mine not to be. Just as you are certain that everything is now fixed and the world will be sunshine and lollipops, it is my right to worry that just the opposite could be true.

The truth is that neither of us know with 100% certainity what all of this means. The one thing I DO know is that higher taxes will mean I can no longer live in my home. I'll be forced into a sub-standard apartment in a dangerous part of town. If that makes you happy, good for you.

What is expressed here is my feelings. I'm entitled to them but you don't have to read them if you don't want to. I respect that. I hope you will respect my right to have them.

I cannot see
Through all the tears.
I may not live
With all these fears.
All that I know
Is dead and gone.
With no hope left
Can I go on?

I don't see how
Trading one group
For another
Is such a coup.
Some will still die
While others live
But now that choice
Is theirs to give.

Have I five years
Or maybe ten?
When did old age
Become a sin?
But go ahead
And justify
Tell my grandkids
The reason why.

Dance in the streets
And have your fun.
The real horror
Has just begun.
Pray you never
Become the poor
Or you will see
What is in store.

Now they will say
Who "may" succeed.
Now they decide
Who's next to bleed.
That sounds good now
Till the worms turns;
Till it becomes
Your life that burns.

Health care reform should start with lobbyists. 5 Supreme Court Justices decided that those pharmeceutical (and other) corporations have citizen's rights under the Constitution and will continue running the country through 'bought' elected officials. And yeah, it is okay to cry ~ everyday can not be sunny.

One step at a time is all we can do. Keep our fingers crossed that the majority comes to their senses and start doing what is right rather than what is majoritized.
