Many families choose to adopt a rescue dog after deciding to bring a new pet into their homes. Here are the stories of Bear, Hercules and Duncan, three rescue dogs in the news recently.
Rescue Dogs in the News - Robert Pattison and Bear
Robert Pattison, star of the Twilight movie series, recently adopted a rescue dog named Bear. The mixed breed dog was to be euthanized, but was saved by Pattison and now is living in the lap of luxury. Pattison has taken Bear aboard private jets and has admitted to smuggling him across borders.
Pattison is to be commended for his decision to adopt a rescue dog. However, by smuggling Bear across borders, he is possibly doing a disservice to his dog and other dogs. Countries, and even some states, have quarantine laws for a reason. They do not want diseases to cross over their borders to infect their pet population, and they do not want any diseases transmitted to incoming pets. It is the opinion of this writer that Pattison should think twice before smuggling Bear across another border.
Rescue Dogs in the News - Rubert and Elizabeth Littler and Hercules
Rubert and Elizabeth Littler of Hillsboro, Ohio adopted a rescue dog named Hercules. Several hours later, the St. Bernard saved his new family. An intruder had cut the phone and cable lines and was attempting to exit the home's basement. Hercules chased and attacked the man as he fled over a fence.
Rescue Dogs in the News - Scott Dunn and Duncan
Scott Dunn of Atlanta, Georgia adopted a rescue dog named Duncan. Recently, when a fire erupted in their home, the three year old Boxer began barking and woke up his owner at 3 am in the morning. Both Dunn and Duncan were able to escape from the flames and smoke. However, after Dunn moved his car away from the fire, he was devastated to find that Duncan ran back into the house and perished in the fire.
