Resident Evil is Good Media Investment Gamers Say

Capcom has commented on the entertainment business success of the Resident Evil franchise, saying that the media investment has succeeded thanks to the Japanese game series. The first three Resident Evil movies of the series came in on top each time at the worldwide box office. Resident Evil original grossed $102.4 million, Apocalypse grossed $129.4 million, Extinction grossed $147.7 million, and Afterlife 3D grossed an amazing $236 million at the box office.

Due to the series' popularity in the entertainment business Sony Pictures quickly announced that the release of the fifth Resident Evil will be in September 2012 only two years after Afterlife 3D was released. This is a drastic change for the production company which had previously averaged a three year break between sequels, making this one the shortest turn around yet.

Prior to the filming of Afterlife, Japanese game publishers released Resident Evil 5 in stereoscopic 3D for PC gamers with the newest technology of 3D vision: NVIDIA. This prompted the movie industry to begin using the same technology to produce their Resident Evil movies. Nearly 80 percent of the film's revenues have stemmed from the screenings in 3D, proving it was a sound entertainment business strategy.

Reviewing revenue from Afterlife, their last 3D production, Resident Evil 5 3D is expected to gross $USD367 million, with producers hoping their media investment will mean it surpasses all former revenues in the media.
