Residential and Commercial Cleaning Business

Robb Weigel
One of the top recession-based businesses to initiate right now is residential and commercial cleaning. If you are unemployed, underemployed, a recent college graduate, or if you see the pink slip around the corner, this business venture might be perfect for you.

First off, the business has very inexpensive overhead. Your biggest expense every month is going to be cleaning supplies which--based upon the volume your business does--will average around $500 a month.

Second off, hourly rates and contractual rates are good. Most cleaners--residential and commercial--charge around $25 by the hour per laborer or by the contract. You want to make sure that you don't charge any less than say $18 an hour because you want to be seen as a professional and not just anyone who walked in off the street who opened a cleaning business.

Third off, marketing the business is inexpensive. Traditional grass roots marketing tactics like flyers, emails, and the Yellow Pages can be all it takes to get your cleaning business going.

And 4th off, the sky is the limit. You can clean homes and businesses; you can provide services like debris removal, deep cleaning, HVAC repair, etc. It really is up to you how much money you can make owning and running a cleaning business.
