Resistance 2: Insomniac Games' Fastest-Selling Title

The Playstation 3 exclusive Resistance 2 is the fastest-selling game ever produced by the excellent developer, Insomniac Games. The independent studio was founded in 1994. Despite their independence, Insomniac Games has only developed games on Sony platforms. Because of that, they became a second-party developer for Sony.

Their first game developed was Disruptor for the Playstation in 1996. Despite being a great game, the title was largely overlooked. Fortunately, Insomniac Games found greener pastures from here on out.

From 1998 to 2000, they released a trio of platforming games based on a cute but deadly purple dragon for the Playstation: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! And Spyro: Year of the Dragon. After the third game, the Spyro was sold off to another publisher. As a result, Insomniac Games needed to start from scratch after building a successful franchise.

For the Playstation 2, Insomniac Games introduced Ratchet & Clank to the gaming world. They released four games in total on the Playstation 2: Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Ratchet: Deadlocked. Like their Spyro series, each Playstation 2 game in the Ratchet & Clank series were highly-praised and sold well on the market.

Ratchet & Clank became such a hit for Insomniac Games that they decided to carry the series over to the Playstation 3 under the name of Ratchet & Clank Future. However, they also introduced a new franchise at the same time on the Playstation 3.

Resistance: Fall of Man is a completely different product than the previous works of Insomniac Games. The Playstation 3 launch title is an M-rated first-person shooter. Thanks to the quality of Resistance: Fall of Man and the elevated exposure of being a launch title, the first game in the Resistance series ended up being one of the best-selling games on the Playstation 3.

Launching two years later, Resistance 2 became the most-anticipated title from Insomniac Games yet. Aside from continuing the story of Resistance: Fall of Man, the sequel was best noted for its ambitious online modes. Resistance 2 features competitive gameplay for up to sixty players with no hint of slowdown. Furthermore, the Playstation 3 exclusive game includes an addicting 8-player cooperative mode where you and your teammates must fight-off seemingly endless flows of enemies.

Thanks to the all the hype, Resistance 2 is the fastest-selling game in the long and successful story of Insomniac Games. It is a highly impressive feat for Resistance 2 to beat out Resistance: Fall of Man, the Spyro series and the Ratchet & Clank series. For Insomniac Games, however, Resistance 2 is just another success story for the excellent developer.
