Resistance

Etienne J. Sarfelli

I turn my back on my phone
I roll away from the sound
of you telling me something I'm not sure I want to hear
something I am not sure I understand
I try to ignore the beckoning call
the sound of your reaching out to me
from an ocean away
I push back the tears that burn my eyes
Swallow the feeling of my growing confusion
of my need for you
of my desire to be with you
of the budding feelings
forming in my heart
I roll away from my phone
trying to harden my heart against these feelings
but it only lasts for a moment
and then I crumble
I melt at the sound of your voice
I yearn from your touch
So I turn back over
and reach for my phone
just like I would reach for you
if you were here.
