Add "earn a Certificate" to Your 2010 New Year's Resolutions

From December 7 through January 22, 2010, you can enroll in continuing education classes at the University of Richmond, School of Continuing & Professional Studies (SCPS). A number of these classes are non-graded, personal enrichment classes, such as career-building, gardening, and art.

UVA's SCPS also offers a number of distance learning certificate classes. Online classes include eMarketing, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Leadership, Procurement and Contracts, Project Management, and Public Administration.

SCPS serves over 15,000 nontraditional adult learners each year, utilizing academic centers in Virginia Beach, Falls Church, Richmond, Quantico, Roanoke, Charlottesville, and Abingdon. Learners do not have to reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia; SCPS students can attend online classes from any location.

The eMarketing graduate certificate includes 15 credit hours. Required classes include: eMarketing Tools and Techniques, Strategic Database Marketing, and Customer Relationship Management. Students can choose two classes from this list: Legal Aspects of eMarketing, Web Marketing: Building Awareness on the Internet, Social and New Media eMarketing, and Introduction to Project Management. All of these courses build on marketing principles with an eye toward the impact of technology. Students are trained to prepare for a highly dynamic field in which businesses must capture customer awareness through advertising.

The Certificate in Information Technology is a 19-credit program for those interested in entering the information (IT) field. Coursework includes fundamentals, terminology, concepts, processes, software, and web design. This certificate also includes a project management course, which is helpful for guiding and implementing IT solutions in business.

Founded by Thomas Jefferson almost 200 years ago, the University of Virginia continues to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth and beyond with opportunities for education. Be sure to take a look at classes offered by the School of Continuing & Professional Studies. Add "earn a certificate" to your 2010 New Year's Resolutions, and find out how education and distance learning can help you achieve your personal goals.
