Resolutions to Resolve the New Years Resolutions
Setting a Plan of Action so You Can Achieve Your Resolution Without Forgetting About It
What will be your New Years resolutions that you will want to keep? You've set them many times over the years and each year you fail to keep your resolution. In many cases you might even just laugh off the fact you had even bothered setting a New Years resolution.
This year don't just make a resolution make a plan of action that will allow you to keep that resolution. It doesn't matter if you resolve to lose weight, stop smoking or take a vacation. Without a plan of action there will be very little you can do to insure you will keep that resolution. I hope some of these tips will help you resolve resolution problem.
Write it down - Don't just say it out loud to yourself or to your friends or family; make a note of it. Don't use a stick-it note but a full piece of paper. You might start you note to read like a legal document. It might read something like this...... I, your name make a New Years resolution to your resolution. Then expand upon that and plan out a course of action. Write down how you're planning on reaching that resolution goal.
Post it - Once you have your plan of action written out you will need to post it on something. Maybe even make copies of it and post it in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office. Where ever you can read it daily as a reminder of how serious you were when you made that resolution. Keep a copy in your purse or wallet as well. Even get it laminated so it will be kept clean and readable.
Tell others - I'm not talking about just the people that were partying with you when you made this resolution. I'm talking about other people you socialize with off and on throughout the day. Co-Workers, family, neighbors, the barber or stylist. Tell them about your plan of action and seek their encouragement from time to time.
Learn about it - No matter what your resolution is research it. Find people you can relate to that have accomplished the same goal (resolution) and find out all you can about how they did it. Use the internet to get as much information as you can, head off to the library and read up on what ever it is you resolve to do.
Re-Read it - Ever day when you get out of bed re-read what you resolved to do. Make it a habit to be your best source of encouragement. Look into the mirror and tell yourself how proud you are for working on this resolution.
Blog it, write about it, Share it - In today's world many of us have a blog or forum we go to and read what others have to say. Unlike telling others now will be the time you are going to be letting people outside your inter-circle of friends and acquaintances know about your resolution. Talk about your resolution in chat rooms or while online with people you associated with.
Practice it - If you have ever taken lesson for something you know that practice makes perfect. Keep your resolution is the same way. You need to practice living it, doing it and keeping it. If your resolution is to stop smoking before a given date you could practice going longer on each day without smoking. Or maybe you want to lose weight. You might take a little bit longer walk once or twice a week until you've worked up to walking that far normally (then increase it again). Practice living as though you've already reached your resolution goal.
Love it - Find reasons every day that are positive and self motivators that will help you love the results of your resolution. It is not as important that you're personally seeing the results yet only that you are finding ways to love what those results will do for you. As I said this is a "Self-Motivator" that will keep you working on that resolution till the end.
Share it - Get on the buddy system with friend that both of you can work on the same or similar resolution. Encourage each other often and make sure that neither of you are going to give up.
Live it - Once you've set the plan in action make it a mandatory way of life. Try to keep the plan of action going well beyond the completion of your resolution so that you're living it everyday. This is especially true when it involves bettering our health.
I hope this list has helped give you a little bit of an edge on keeping your New Years resolution this year. We all struggle from time to time. It's getting the little extra help or boost of encouragement that is sometimes all we need. For some it may be a simple lack of a "Plan of Action".
