Resort Travel Tips

Many families vacation at resorts during the year. Resort vacations can be the ideal getaway, but can also cost hundreds of dollars a day. Many families wonder if the cost of the trip is worth it to vacation at a resort. Resorts can be worth the money but you must shop around and know exactly what you are looking for. All inclusive resorts are often the easiest to budget for because they include everything during the course of your vacation. From food to entertainment, an all inclusive rate will cover.

If you are looking for a vacation pacakage that caters to children, think of the ages of your children before booking your trip. Resorts cater to children preschool aged and up. Families with younger children will still enjoy the resort, but the relaxation may be hindered some. You need to check the amenities that are offered at the resort and match them with your child's age and abilities. If your child does not know how to swim, you should look for a wading pool or children's splash area. Often times, older children make friends while on vacation and the resort becomes their "neighborhood" while on vacation.

To find the best resorts, talk to people that have experienced the resort first hand. Family, friends, and travel professionals who have recently visited your resorts of choice can usually be the best source of information. Search the internet and read reviews of resorts. You should keep in mind that everything you read online is not true. Perhaps a previous traveler had an extremely bad experience or a former worker has written negative reviews. Some business also use travel review sites to criticize competitors. Call the resort and request brochures and other infomation packets so that you can see exactly what the resort offers.

When booking a resort vacation, you should ask many questions to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. Find out what is and is not included in your stay. Find out what other type of fees are associated with the resort that you might not be aware of. Some resorts add "towel fees" and other miscellaneous charges. If you are traveling our of season find out if any of the facilities will be closed down or if anything is expected to be closed for repair or renovation. You can ask how crowded the resort will be during your stay.

To get the best deal at a family resort, travel in low season. Rates are typically higher when kids are out of school. If you can travel in the low season you may save alot of money on your trip. Do research ahead of time so that when a "deal" comes available you will know it is really a deal and can act properly. By using a travel agent, they can search for extra money saving incentives and other deals that you generally won't find on your own. Always compare quotes from rsorts and double check them online to make sure that you are indeed receiving the best deal available. Use coupons when available and ask about any available discounts.
