Resorts and Spas in Key West, Florida

Emily Griffin
Key West has always been one of my favorite places in Florida and I have done my fair share of research on various hotels, resorts and spa's in the area. One thing that has also been very close to my heart is the American's with Disabilities Act, so I always keep in mind accessibility issues for people with physical disabilities when I am looking into a hotel. So I can promise you that every hotel, resort and spa that I mention in this article, will abide by your rights in accordance to the ADA.

The Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa
They Hyatt is a well respected 5 star hotel all across America. Although it is on the pricier side, the spas have always proven to be amazing and the service is impeccable. They also offer a system (Hyatt Gold Passport) for which you can earn free nights if you stay frequently. Being a 5 star hotel, all Hyatt locations will willingly and openly accommodate people with disabilities and do not charge for Service dogs.

The Pier House Resort and Caribbean Spa
I personally have yet to actually stay at the Pier House but I will be staying there this summer. Thus far, my experience with them has been superb; I had booked a room online and requested ADA equipment, within a couple of hours they contacted me, informing me that the room I had booked, was not wheelchair assessable and helped me decide on a room that was. Along with that, they are not charging me extra for the room since it was not clear on the website. The Pier House does require a one (1) night, plus tax deposit when making a reservation but it is worth the price of admission because of the amazing service.

Did you know?
I have personally found that many persons with disabilities do not know their full rights. If you have a service/guide dog, the dog is allowed in all areas where customers are allowed. Even if there is a sign that says, "No pets allowed," this does not apply to a service dog because the dog IS NOT a pet under the law. Hotels are also not allowed to charge pet fees for service dogs. When traveling make sure you have the dogs certification papers with you just in case you need to have proof that the dog is a service dog. If you do not usually put a vest on your service dog, it is a good rule of thumb to put it on the dog when in an unfamiliar place. Know your rights!

Oh.... My...... Goodness!!!! You make me want to go back to Key West. We went there on our honeymoon and we stayed on the other side, near the bay? We were not liking Key West too much when we got there, then we saw the fun side of Key West, Duvall street. We ended up having a great time but next time we go to Key West, we'll have to check out one of these resorts.
