Restaurant City Tips and Tricks for Any Skill Level

What I wish I had known before playing Restaurant City by Playfish

Restaurant City is a fun time wasting game made by Playfish and can be found on social networking sites, such as FaceBook. The premise is simple; you set up and run a restaurant. Sounds easy and yet, there are some tricks to the trade that can really help out both the seasoned Restaurant City player and the newbie alike.

Free stuff:

Initially, when you start your Restaurant City account, money will seem tight. So, there are two easy ways to get free ingredients as well as free coin right off the bat.

1) Free ingredients - For every day you log in to your account, you get a daily ingredient. It will be the first thing that pops up when you enter your restaurant. Also, in your mailbox, there will be a food quiz every day. If you get the right answer, you will get a second daily free ingredient. Even if you don't spend much time in Restaurant City every day, you can get up to two ingredients for just logging in.

2) Free coins - When you log into your restaurant, there will be two ways for free coins. See that garbage on the floor? Click on it to clean it up and get a coin for each piece of garbage. You can visit your friend's restaurants too and get free coins for picking up their garbage. Second way to get free coins, shake trees. See the trees around your lot? Zoom out and click on the trees, some give you free coins.

Keeping up your Popularity:

The popularity rating of your restaurant is determined by cleanliness of the restaurant, speed of service and availability of things such as restrooms. Your popularity scale can reach a maximum of 51. The higher the popularity rating, the more visitors your store is likely to get. The more visitors, the more money you make.

1) Keep it clean - Cleaning your restrooms and clearing up empty plates is a very simple way to keep your customers happy. You can clear plates manually, though your waiters will do so as well, you can clean toilets and repair machines manually now as well, so there is no need to hire a janitor.

2) Table layout - The best way to keep cooks and waiters at the most efficient is lowering the amount they travel. My recommendations for a starting restaurant layout are having the tables and stoves all facing each other in an enclosed square. This way, all your waiters are inside this square and can move directly from stove to table without any obstructions.

3) Closing shop for resting - Your staff will have about three hours of effective work time before crashing. Unfortunately, customers will still come in and sit down, even though your staff is unable to work. This will bring down your popularity. So, before sending your staff to bed, go to the redecorate hammer icon and move an item in front of your door to block it. If you have several doors, you need each of them blocked so customers do not enter. This way, while your staff sleeps, you can keep your popularity safe.

4) Decoration - There are some decoration items that not only keep your customers busy while waiting, but increase the popularity of your restaurant. Video games, fish tanks, etc can improve the popularity, but cost a lot of coins. In the beginning, I would recommend that you not invest in these items until you have gotten a few levels of experience under your keyboard.

5) Maze - By creating a path that takes a while for your guests to walk, (out of plants, decorations, dividers or crates) then they will not have to wait as long for precious seats, keeping them happier.

Expenses:

In a real life restaurant, the basics need covered first. The same can be said for Restaurant City. It is easy to want to make your restaurant pretty and put neat decorations in it, but for the beginner, tables, chairs, stoves and toilets are the best deal for your money. Save up for these big ticket items. Believe me, it will be worth your while!

1) Buy basic stoves, tables, chairs and toilets/sinks before you worry about anything else. (All the stoves cook the same, so spending more money won't get you a faster stove.)

2) Until you start getting a high popularity rating, do not worry about buying ingredients for maxing out your recipes. It will not change the amount of coin you make per serving. Just collect your daily ingredients and share/trade with friends!

3) Once you reach level 11, you will unlock a garden plot. Each seed costs 2000 coins and takes about 45 hours to grow. You need to hour this on average every 8 hours. After it blooms you will get a random fruit, herb or vegetable.

Recipes:

Recipes can be tricky. The goal is to get at least one dish from each category; starter, main and dessert, maxed out to ten.

1) Only max out one from each category at first. You will want to leave other recipes alone until you've maxed one. That way, you can trade unused ingredients to get the ones that you need!

I hope these tips help both the newbie Restaurant City player as well as the seasoned shop owner. Also PlayFish is always upgrading and offering new incentives and ways to improve your restaurant, so keep playing!
