Restaurant Review Al Smith's Place

Toledo, Ohio

Bubba
It was a beautiful Day for a drive. We had a Doctor appointment in Toledo. The Doctor appointment went well but we were both hungry. Memories of our honeymoon had brought a little family type resturant to mind. Al Smith's Place is just blocks away from Westgate Shopping Center. Al Smith's Place is located at 3550 Executive Parkway just a stone throw off Secor Rd. between Monroe and Central in Toledo, Ohio. Call 'em @ 419-531-0600. Al Smith's Place is open daily from 7am till 8pm.

We ambled into a bright dining room with a green décor. Somehow the décor screamed happy times. The menu ranges from Breakfast, Sandwiches, and Down Home Cooking. The menu board offers several daily specials. Another menu board offered at least twenty-five homemade pies. Jake, our server quickly brought coffee and water and gave us the description of the specials.

The Queen Goddess loves fried chicken. Tonight it was a cup of Chicken Noodle Soup, Broasted Chicken, whipped potatoes and gravy, corn, and Jello salad. The chicken was wonderful. The sides were like homemade. The roll was fresh and lots of butter was available on the table. I had a difficult time choosing between the Meatloaf and the Al's Mean and Lean Triple Decker Club Sandwich. Finally the Bean soup made me choose the Club Sandwich. Y'all know you get free gas with every bowl of bean soup. The Tripple Decker Club Sandwich was the traditional Turkey, Ham, Bacon lettuce, tomato, mayo, both Swiss and American cheese stacked high. I enhanced this with an order of homemade onion rings. It was all great but hold your fork the best is yet to come.

The Queen Goddess asked Jake's opinion of the huge pie menu. Jake suggested the Carmel Apple Walnut pie ala mode with Vanila Ice Cream, warmed of course. I stole a fork full of the decadent delight and can personally tell you it was fabulous. The crust was light as a feather and the pie was loaded with flavor.

Well folks once again we have dinner for two, including beverages, dessert, salaes tax and a generous gratuity for Jake for under $35. If you get to Al Smith's Place before we return just tell 'em Bubba and Bonnie sent ya. I know my next trip it will be either Meatloaf or the Liver and Onions. Mizpah ;-}}>
