Restaurant Review - Alton Sports Tap

Terry Edwards
A few good friends and I had the recent opportunity to go the Alton Sports Tap in Alton, IL. The Alton Sports Tap is a nice little bar/restaurant that serves up classic American fare along with your favorite game on their many big screen TV's. There are several reasons why I enjoyed going to the Alton Sports Tap.

After a round of golf, our foursome was wanting to go somewhere for a late lunch and also be able to watch the basketball game, so we decided to try the Alton Sports Tap. When we arrived it was about half full, so we were able to quickly be seated by our waitress. She was quite friendly and immediately brought us out our menus and drinks.

After looking over the menu I decided on the 8oz ribeye steak sandwich for only $6.50 that also came with french fries. I also had an appetizer of battered mushrooms to go along with it. The menu contains items from fish and burgers to philly cheesesteak sandwiches and so much more. Other side items include onion rings, mozzarella sticks and nachos to only mention a few.

The Alton Sports Tap is a good place to go and watch any type of sporting event. They have several TV's set up and they all have a different game on them most of the time. It's easy to find someone else who is also a fan of your favorite team to sit around and talk with. It was a very nice atmosphere that was also nice and clean.

My waitress brought out my battered mushrooms to the table and I must say there were plenty of them to eat. They were nicely battered and served hot. She also brought out some ranch dressing for a dipping sauce and it was delicious. If you like fried mushrooms you can't go wrong here!

Shortly after that, our order arrived. My steak sandwich was served on an oversize bun along with extras like onions, pickle, etc. The steak was cooked MW and tasted great. It wasn't tough like some steak sandwiches you may eat at times. It was tender and cooked just right. I was pleasantly surprised because I really didn't know what to expect.

My friends ordered everything from cheeseburgers to a pork tenderloin sandwich and all of them said it was good. My entire meal with drink and a tip was less than $10, which I feel is a good deal when you consider we spent more than an hour and half there watching a great game at the same time.

If you are looking for a nice sports themed restaurant to have a good lunch or dinner in, I would give two thumbs up to the Alton Sports Tap.

Does anyone know if Alton Sports Tap is for sale? Heard a rumor the owners want out. Is the neighborhood gettin' bad or something?
