My buddy and I were in the search for a good burger the other day, and decided to try out Angelo Burger Co. It has actually been voted "favorite burger" in San Angelo for a few years now. I have also heard that it is a result of ballot stuffing, but hey, it would still have to be good, right?

Atmosphere

Angelo Burger sits in a good location, right next to Angelo State University at the end cap of a small shopping center, so it is able to get a lot of business from college students. It is basically a fast food joint, so the only downside the location has is no drive-thru. It has a nice sign and logo, kind of an old-timey look to it.

When you go in it is like a combination of a fast food burger joint and a diner. You go up a couple of steps to get to the where you order, and the raised area is surrounded by rails and a little bar stool area. You can see where the food is cooked from where you stand, and you pick up your food at a little pick up area right from the cook.

Menu

Angelo Burger has a pretty impressive looking menu. In addition to burgers, they also serve hot dogs, gyros, and Philly cheese steaks. I would definitely like to try out the cheese steaks and gyros at some point. We each ordered the regular cheeseburger combo, which cost $4.99 with fries and a drink. Not bad, but not great either. Most of the other items were similarly priced.

The burger was your average fast food burger. It was certainly not worthy of any awards. The fries were pretty good though, thick cut and there was some good seasoned salt to sprinkle on them at the table. It didn't help that my drink was flat either. My friend thought the burger was pretty good but not all that it was hyped up to be.

"I liked it, but I expected a great burger considering all the hype," she said. "I have had burgers at fast food places that were as good or better."

Service

The service was friendly, and the food was done quickly. Of course, it was fast food, so there wasn't much to it, but I have had plenty of bad service from many of the fast food chains. I did like that the burgers were well put together. At a place like Burger King or McDonalds, they usually just pile all the ingredients in the middle of the burger and you have to take it apart before you eat it to make sure you aren't going to get 5 pickles in one bite, for example.

Conclusion

Considering that the burgers were supposedly the best in town, the place was a let down. It does compare favorably, however, to most fast food chains. So if you are in the mood for a fast food burger and plan on dining in as opposed to going through the drive-thru, then it's a good choice.
