An Instant Hit

The Mexican restaurants in Lafayette Colorado now have real competition in town. The Asian King Buffet restaurant chain recently opened an eatery in the Countryside Village shopping center next to Radio Shack. A flier states that they have over 80 menu items spanning Chinese, Japanese, and American cuisine.

A recent foray during their Grand Opening uncovered a restaurant that appears to be an instant hit with Lafayette residents. Despite a 1 pm arrival time on a weekday, I noticed a very busy parking lot in front of the restaurant. The rest of the parking was deserted.

Upon entry, a hostess quickly greeted me and took me a booth. The placed was packed with people! My server quickly appeared and took my order. I ordered the All You Can Eat Buffet and some iced tea. I then left for the buffet. My tea was waiting for me at my return.

The buffet was excellent. There were three different buffet tables with a variety of Chinese, Japanese, and American dishes. All of them were hot and looked freshly prepared. I didn't notice any dishes that had been sitting under warming lights for a long time. I put a sample of a variety of standard Chinese buffet dishes on my plate. They were all delicious and more than met my expectations. If you enjoy Chinese buffets, you won't be disappointed with their variety.

I enjoyed the wonton soup, Lo Mein, General Tso's Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, and the Sesame Chicken. For dessert I had the sesame balls that were at the buffet. They had a wonderful red bean paste filling. The only item I hope they can add in the future would be some steamed buns.

The only faults I could find would be with their imitation breaded and fried crab legs and the chicken for the sweet and sour chicken. Both seemed to be very soggy inside. I set them aside.

My server was very attentive and quickly filled up my cup when it ran low. She was very friendly and genuinely wanted to know if I needed anything. The bill was quickly brought when I was ready to leave. At the register, I was again genuinely asked how my meal was. It was a perfect "all you can eat" Chinese food buffet.

Asian King Buffet is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in Lafayette. It may even be my favorite restaurant in Lafayette.
