I took a business trip to New York, which I do almost every month, and was invited to dine at the very stylish and elusive restaurant Babbo. At first, I was a little apprehensive, did I bring the right suit?... you know what I mean. On arrival at this 5 star restaurant which is owned by Mario Batali, based in Greenwich Village, and which is rated the sixth best restaurant in all of New York, I slowly began to relax.

One thing I really cant stomach is pomp and ceremony. I like to be treated well however when you have four people standing around you and your dining partner and every time one of you drops a crumb on the table someone lurches forward and brushes it away, that's not for me. Babbo is the perfect combination of style, comfort and excellent food and service. It is not over the top even though celebs regularly haunt this restaurant. After a couple of glasses of gappa's I finally chilled.

The food is the home for haute cuisine and offers exotic dishes such as crispy pig's-foot Maltanese and lambs-tongue vinaigrette ... sounds different, but melts your tastebuds. I guess celebrities that come to dine from around the globe are partial to a bit of pig's foot Maltanese, however I believe, after looking around at the other diners that it is the magical atmosphere that attracts them. I tried to listen into some of the conversations going on at the other tables but everyone spoke in soft tones so I have no gossip from the other diners.

The prices are a little expensive however, how many pig's feet and lamb's tongues are you offered in other restaurants? Baboo is a renouned, much discussed restaurant with top famous clientel however, there is no denying the quality of the cuisine, the magical atmosphere, the silent spoken diners shaded in secrecy or the value for money. Yes, the value for money. This restaurant is definitely "forks up" for me and I really began to chill, relax and partake in the secret ambience and let go. Yes, I downed another few gappa's, took out the exclusive glossy menu and ordered a gigantic slice of french cake which rounded off this experience perfectly.
