Restaurant Review: Burgundy's Restaurant in Lima, Ohio
Lima's Official "Fancy" Restaurant is More Style Than Substance
Lima, OH 45805
United States of America
At Burgundy's restaurant in Lima Ohio, part of the fancy-feel is not just the high prices for basic steak, seafood, and pasta dishes, but because of the way the servers dress. They look very nice, clean-cut, and are always polite and courteous, treating you like you're some millionaire who is in town for a holiday. This is a very welcoming place, despite the fact that it wants to seem untouchable or better than it is. Unlike other Lima, Ohio restaurants, they serve everything in glasses and even offer you wine, a rarity, indeed in a town where 75% of the population thinks Wild Irish Rose is a delicacy. Okay, that was mean, I am truly sorry. They have big steaks on the menu and several appetizer choices but frankly, all of their food appears to have come from some frozen foods wholesaler. Particularly in terms of the appetizers, none of which are likely prepared (made by hand) on the site.
There are no unique dishes that cannot be found elsewhere and the menu is like a hybrid between the Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden. The cheeses they used on their dishes were of the lowest quality, akin to government cheese (think school lunch provolone, not the real deal). Their steaks and seafood are frozen (this I know from asking our server, by the way) and in many senses, this makes the place seem more about status or "feeling fancy" rather than good food. While I do not mean to be too harsh in my review of Burgundy's restaurant in Lima, Ohio, I feel they are tricking people who don't know better into paying huge prices for food that is the same quality they can get at a chain restaurant. It's just not that good. They cut corners on cost in nearly aspect in terms of their food products and it shows. Salads do not use interesting ingredients (garden versus roma tomatoes and again! The cheese thing bothers me to no end!).
The service is always good at Burgundy's and I have never had a bad experience with it in any way. Everyone working there appears to be quite happy and when I had a problem with my order, it was handled quickly and without complaint. For a smaller town, they have a decent wine selection, although the set-up of their wine menu and the server suggestions always point you toward wines that do not match the entrée they are suggested with. A minor point, but I'm picky about things like wine and cheeses. They are a mark of quality; a sign that a restaurant has gone above and beyond to bring customers something new, interesting, or otherwise delightful. Burgundy's restaurant in Lima, Ohio does not do this. While it's great that they've gone out of their way to make folks feel fancy, anyone who's ever left the grim confines of Lima, Ohio sees right through the façade.
Burgundy's restaurant in Lima, Ohio is open for lunch and dinner. It is located on Cable Road less than a mile away from the Lima Mall and across the street from the main movie theatre and within a half-mile from Westgate Lanes. Like many Lima restaurants, they don't have a website, which is okay, you don't need reservations generally and the menu is not really listing since it's so predictable. Steak, seafood, pasta. Period.

Post a CommentI've been in Lima for about 4 years. I love my job here....but I am dying for some classy options for things to do, places to go, restaurants, etc.
I work hard and earn a nice living, and I am desparate for something NICE to do!
I wish Lima had more to offer in the way of upscale entertainment! Thanks for your article....and I couldn't agree more. Burgundy's is nice...but "nice" in Lima is much different than "nice" in other areas.
Its just sad that we have to drive 1 to 1 1/2 hours to experience anything upscale. And what about our mall? I wish people in Lima expected more! I can only hope some big business will move into Lima, bringing with it professionals and opportunities, which will lead to growth!
Again...I love my career here in Lima...and overall think Lima is full of great people...but I do hope Lima grows and offers more upscale opportunities for people who prefer not to settle for less!
Your writing and grammar is exactly like your taste in food. It is AWFUL!
I know you think you're cute and funny but it comes across as pathetic. If you HAD a brain you would be dangerous. I'm sure you love the POUND OF PASTA at Ruby Tuesday's.
You act like you are some kind of sophisticate and very worldly but it's easy to tell that's not true.
I'm willing to bet you wear muscle shirts to impress your boyfriends and have them beat you after sex.
Also, whether you've picked up on it or not, the service IS as important as the food. If you have great food and poor service, you won't return.
This local restaurant with a 22 year history is our favorite.Excellent food & service. Maybe Townie is a little cofused.!
Would like to see what skills you possess!? Most likely none
Is "Townie" afraid to use his real name? His self description as a bit of a snob just doesn't do him justice. Columbus is not snobby enough for "Townie". Maybe he belongs in Washington, D.C.
I think this review - although somewhat accurate, is mean spirited. First, this is not the only "fancy" restaurant in Lima - Main Street Bistro has food that competes with any large city menu. I would rate Burgundy's as the 2nd best in town, and anyone can find a meal here and leave happy. True - one of Lima's best features is it's close proximity to so many great cities, but I'd rather live in Lima than any of them. Don't let this review dissuade you from coming to Burgundy's - if you are hungry you will like it...
It is people like you who go to Burgundy's for special events and think they come up short handed. Any other time you would go to Ruby Tuesday's, Mcdonalds or some other chain and be satisified with dehydrated onions on a bun and or eating out of a trough at Ruby Tuesday's.
Interesting review. Thak You fer sharin' your opinions. ;-}}>
