Dierdorf & Harts Steakhouse is owned by 2 former St Louis Rams football players, Dan Dierdorf and Jim Hart. This restaurant is known for serving up some of the best steaks in town, but on this occasion they fell short.
When we arrived for dinner we were greeted by a hostess and shown our table and given menus in a quick manner. That was one of the better aspects of our visit. Our waiter finally came to our table in what seemed like 10 minutes later. To make matters worse he seemed disinterested in what he was even doing. The menu presentation was a non-chalant I really don't care what you want type presentation. It immediately turned us off. For a steakhouse that charges upwards of $30 for a meal you feel that someone should be a little more interested.
Well, we placed our order and I decided on the filet. I requested it to be cooked medium well and it also came with a baked potato, salad and fresh bread. Looking around the restaurant I will say that it was clean. The lighting was low and projected a nice intimate atmosphere. It was quiet, which allowed you to have a conversation without feeling like you needed to yell over the top of everyone around you.
Our food was taking forever to get to our table. After 25 minutes I asked our waiter what was taking so long with our order and he found out that they had forgotten the ticket! At this point I am in disbelief over what is happening, but he assured us that our food was being cooked and should be out in 10 minutes.
Finally, after a total of 40 minutes our food arrived. After looking at my steak I wish it hadn't arrived. My order for a medium well filet mignon was rare to medium rare. Blood was still running out of it. Apparently in their haste to prepare our lost ticket they didn't fully cook the food. I had our waiter take it back and finish cooking it, which added on another 15 minutes.
Needless to say, our order was comped so we were not out anything other than the cost of our drinks. This was a totally disappointing experience for the both of us. While the atmosphere was nice, the service and quality of food were not. I really can't recommend Dierdorf and Harts at this time.

Post a CommentThe staff and D & H were very rude to me and my father. I brought my father there for Fathers Day one early afternoon, but we were not wearing suits (even though it was nearly 100 degrees outside). The staff was very rude to us when we stepped in, and told us we were not dressed to their high standards, and told us to leave before we got our second foot in the door. It was funny because neither of us said a word to them, and just looked at each other and walked out. It was also funny since they had no customers, and were just prancing around in their tuxedo's. We ended up going to Ozzie's restaurant (leaving a big tip$$), were treated with respect, and had a good meal. Unless you are some kind of VIP, and want to be treated like trash by their staff, then I recommend Dierdorf and Harts.
I am glad to say that the experience my wife and I had did not turn out nearly as badly. We did have to wait the 25 minutes our author suggested, but I felt we received superior service. Overall, I would have to say that our experience was excellent.
However, there is one important coveat to consider. The author is spot on with his point about under cooking of the steak. I like my steaks medium-rare, but I have learned from experience to order medium-well. For some reason, the last few times I have ordered steaks medium-rare from various steak houses, they come out rare. In this case, I ordered medium-well and got the medium-rare I wanted. Maybe next time I will just ask the waiter for their definition of medium-rare.
Dan Dierdorf and Jim Hart played for the (now Arizona) St. Louis Cardinals, not the (then Los Angeles) Rams.
